Tank Background

Hello,
I am in the process of setting up a new 90RR. I have been out of the hobby for a while. In my previous tanks I have used regular background, but have had the usual problems of salt creep getting between it and the glass. This time I might paint the back? Does this work well? Do you just use normal paint? Flat? and does the glass need any special prep work? thanks for any advice you all can offer.....

i painted acrylic with black latex rustoleum paint. 3 coats and good...brushed it on.

i painted my background. it was freshwater scene, now its pitch black

No doubt, paint the back, its been done since metal frame, slate bottom tanks. Black is nice, blue can look good also. I have used traditionally, oil based paint but can not say about latex.

I also painted mine with black latex rustoleum paint. Brushed it on takes 3 or 4 coats.

krylon fusion spray bombs makes short work of painting tanks and holds up outstandingly, and unlike other spray bombs is very easy to apply doesnt run

I also wiped it down with rubbing alcohol to be sure it was clean.

I just put black paper as my background but I am now definitly just going to pain it

I rolled on two coats of black oil-based paint. It dries ultra-hard, and there is no problem with salt creep. Check my Gallery for photos of the paint job.

I used black Krylon Fusion, worked well.

You may want to consider purchasing black Coroplast signs material. You can fix it to the back of your tank with velcro. It is AWESOME if you can access your tank from the back. THis way you can see if a fish or invert is hiding or maybe a coral has fallen in the back of your aquascaping. I love it in my inwall
