tank hit 86 degrees today i could cry

FWIW....my tank swing about 4-5 degrees a day....low of 77 and a high of 82....yes i have fans and venting, but i dont own a chiller.

i keep the heater set a little lower, due to the MH heating up things...i have 4-4in fans on the tank......i think im going to put two clip-on fans this summer on my sump....

i think you'll be okay...just keep an eye on things!
Good luck.

I have neither a heater nor a chiller on my tank. In the past week, the tank has been anywhere from 72 to 84 without any problems.

EEK, 72 is pretty low and not normal for any of the corals we keep in captivity. I'd definitely keep an eye on that. You probably don't want your tank dropping below about 77 or so, and personally I wouldn't be comfortable with a daily variation of more than 4 or maybe 5 deg. F. Also, realize that no obvious ill effects to our eyes does not mean there were no ill effects at all. Lots of biochemistry going on in living things.

The tank generally ranges from about 74-84 any given week for the last 2 years. Probably not something I'd recommend in most cases, but coral/fish/invert growth is fine and there haven't been any problems. I don't think 86 is anything to worry about either unless there's something else going on there.
