We have a 50-60 year old fridge in our basement. I post for free on Craig's list. Come-n-get it. Got a guy on the way, want's it for scrap. I figure, what the hey, I'll take it apart. Door comes off, a few other steel pans. I take out a few bolts to remove the compressor and TSSSSSSSSSSSS. OH ****!!!! Freon leaking, eyes watering, nose stinging..... YECH!!
I call Dave Dempsey at ABC Reefs, who's been in construction his whole life. He says, get out of the house. Call poison controll. It's merely an irritant, unless continually inhaled. Meanwhile, wife, 2 dogs, and baby are out in her car in the drive way.
My sump was like 6 feet from where the freon was streaming out. House stank to be damned. All the windows open, fans going, temp is 50 in the house. Nightmare. Took about 2 hrs before we could come back inside. Kinda wish I could have seen what my pH did with all the new air in the house.
Heck of a Saturday night.:blown:
