Tank update

I had to remove a large amount of my rocks due to my xenia. I've moved a full 20 gallon of live rock without xenia into holding for now.

Also had an Aiptasia eating filefish that loved Acans and Lobos :( Moved them to the sump under a red grow lamp and surprisingly they're doing good. Still need to catch the filefish, it did eat all my Aiptasia. I was hoping it would like the xenia too, but it just likes to hide in it.

I have a new biopellet reactor getting installed this week, hopefully that will help some of the xenia nutrients to disappear.

If anyone needs some pom-pom xenia or colt, let me know.

I had a pyramid snail eat my Z's and P's before i found it. A lot of sites list the matted filefish as being possibly reef safe, some members report no nipping at any corals. I took a chance.

I did as well before, he was fine eating other foods provided when the aipts were all eradicated, but he just turned one day and mowed down colonies at a time, before I found him actually nipping at what was left.

I was really hoping it'd eat the xenia as people say they do sometimes. I guess the buffet was too big and scared it out of that thought lol.

Which made me stop my search for a pyramid butterfly, because who knows if it will eat it either.

i had an infestation of xenias/ Only way for me was to take the rock out and pour boiling water over them. Those suckers are total weed.

Seems at this point I can't do that as the rocks are too large / share with other corals. I got some forceps im going to sit and Bonsai rip it out.

What r u going to do with the filefish after u catch it? I was looking into getting one to deal with aiptisia if ur intrested In selling

I managed to get ride of my Xenia with some forceps. :)

Make sure you left absolutely nothing behind with the xenia. Even if you left just a small slime coating with a bit of tissue it will come back. I used to scrape them off, toss them and then kalk paste the area with about a 75% success rate. It took multiple attempts to eradicate them from a few rocks that had it, and honestly I gave up on the last few rocks and gave them away lol. Small ones would also sprout up in lower flow spots they settled in after my clowns would nip off the tips of them. If it's been a good while I'd say disregard, but if it's just recently keep your eyes out for them.

You're right for sure I'll be pulling more off as I go. I know there were pieces too small for me to remove. As long as I don't just see a mass of Xenia when I look in my tank I'm happy.
