Nice looking setup, Mike. Are you at all concerned that you have no warranty on the tank because you're not using one of the Marineland stands?

what type of wood did you trim the stand with?

I used good ole grade A pine. I applied Minwax Golden Pecan stain in two coats. I am also using 4 coats of Minwax semi-gloss poly.

Thanks for the compliment. I would have to say I am denial on the concern over the warranty of the tank. I am not the original purchaser of this tank. I was told that the warranty was out the door since I didn't buy it from the store. I suppose it is a very big risk that I am taking. Thankfully there have not been any reports of seam issues so far on these tanks. I have it full of water and there are no signs of stress on any of the seams. I took a lot of precautions on ensuring my stand was built solid. I know it doesn't look like you park a pickup on it. However, every joint is tight, glued and screwed together. Everything is square and plumb as far as I can tell. I can only hope nothing fails.

This shot gives a good view as to what is going on underneath. Not very much at this point. On the left you can see the three way switch I have wired in. I can shut down my return pump from either upstairs or in the fish room. The plumbing is pretty simple too. I used some decent union ball valves to control the return flow. I did find that I have some kinks to work out. The tank came with the "durso style" stand pipes. There are two 1/2" holed drilled in the top elbows. This causes a serious sucking noise with the valves fully open coming from my Iwaki 70 return pump. I intend to change them out with a new 90 degree elbow and install a control air valve with some 3/8 hose and fittings. The drains are 1" ID spaflex to 2" drains that go the basement sump. I had planned for a 400 gallon tank with 2" drains. Since I didn't get the 400 I figured the two inch pipes should be just fine anyway. You can also see the additional framing that was done to box the tank in. I went about a 1/4" above the plastic trim. The reason for that is so that I stay away from the silicone on the bottom panel. I didn't want to risk nicking it while cleaning.

My wife was ****ed that I didn't stick to the plan on the stand. I was supposed to duplicate the marineland stand. I thought it was to plain. I added a little more flare up top than she wanted. She called me out as an "amature woodworker" lol. She's just upset that I took so much realestate in the living room. Everytime I consume another inch. I think it irritates her all over again. hahahahhahah

Hey Mike, did you have to add any additional support for your tank in the basement? I have seen a lot of thread of people adding additional support beams for their tank, so was wondering if you did the same?

The room the tank is in is a concrete slab. There is plenty of support. For some reason, probably cost factored. They did not extend the basement out and under my back family room.

Looks Great Mike, promise me you wont pile the rock up in one boring pile.

Hahahhahaha

I actually did some test aquascaping in my garage last night. I am planning making something a little more unique than the usual pile of rocks or the great wall of china look. I had some really cool twists, ledges and tunnels pieced together last night. It was kind of like pulling out the ole tub of legos and seeing what I could come up with. I am going to be in Lima this week. I plan to stop by US Plastics and get some nylon threaded rod. I should really be able to make some thing diffierent than the norm with it.

That room was a add on upgrade for your houses floor plan. 99% of the time its a slab

I figured as much..

The salt is in the tank now and mixing in the sump. I figure I'll give it a week and drop in the sacraficial test chromis.
