looking real good man, how do you like the reflectors? Are you using xm 10ks?

I am a little torn on the reflectors. I have shaded areas that shouldn't be there in my opinion. Maybe I'm expecting to much out of them. I would have to show you to exlpain what I mean. They do spread the light out very well though. It's just the areas directly under the bulb that seem to be affected. I am still using the XM 10K's. I'm going to try the reefflux 12's in the spring.

Mike that tang sure is a camera hog he's in the middle of every picture lol

Yeah thats my lil ham :)

Hey Nick, the skimmer that is being used is a Euroreef RC1000. The total water volume of the system is right around 500 gal. I intended to buy a 400 gal. tank but the room was to small for it to fit properly. So, I went for a smaller tank. The skimmer can handle the bio load very well once I stock it up a little more.

Looking good, Mike:thumbsup:

I just picked up 2 of the same reflectors myself for my 200gal Marineland tank. I had originally went with the Lumenarc minis but they were too tall. What is your clearance from the bottom of the reflector to the water surface? Also, I noticed you are not using any fans in your canopy? How is the temperature when the halides are on? I was planning on two 4" fans, one on either end.

As for someones question about why the size holes and why the corner overflows, I posted the answers in the Marineland thread in the large tank forum.

I am actually torn on the corner overflows. I don't like seeing them when viewing from the sides, but, there have been many times with my old tank where I wished I could see in there and couldn't. Whether it be a missing fish or what have you, there are some benefits.

Keep those pictures coming!

When I had my old Perfecto 180 set up the sides were viewable. There were a few times when this was very beneficial. Like Tony said, it makes tracking down a missing fish, etc. easier. However, I kept them covered most of the time with a piece of black acrylic cut to the size of the overflow.

Thanks Tony,

The reflectors sit 7" from the top rail of the tank. That puts the bulb about 9" off the water. I do like the low profile of these reflectors a lot. I didnt want fans running on this tank. So I didn't put any in. The hood is spaced slightly off the tank all the way around except for the front fold down panel. I left the top slated so heat can escape easily. I have a large ceiling fan that I can use to move the air around the room. My intent was to do a little more evaporative cooling on the basement sump. I had 4 fans on my 180 and they drove me nuts because I always had to crank the tv up to get over the noise. Being that is the coldest day of the year this far I am not sure how this is really going to work out just yet.

I intend to build some light weight panels to cover the sides. They will attach with some velcro. I don't care for seeing the plumbing from the side either.

I like your carpentry work too!

Thanks,

It was a lot more work than I had anticipated. I had some help on the doors and they really turned out nice. It's great to have people to help out with those types of tasks. Thanks again PMG :)

hey mike are you worried or actually does it bother you that light comes out the back of the hood with that big cut out ? just curious in the future im looking to do something like your hood. looks great though, cant wait for more pics, and love the progression of the build.

Nah... it doesn't bother me at all. I was thinking of the silent cooling aspects of having it as open as possible. It makes more of a cool flicker of blue and white on the ceiling than it does from the back. I'm working on getting the fish room squared away now. I had to rebuild my HDDC4. The internals were just not working right and it constantly wanted to blow fuses. I picked up a 20 amp relay to power all 4 outlets at once. I think this should work just fine. I have one outlet that will switch with halides that will probably get tied into a cooling fan of some sort in the fish room. I'll toss up some pics in a bit. I just finished testing it and getting in reinstalled.

Very nice tank!! Makes me anxious to get mine set up. Starting to do some today.
As for the eletes how do you have them mounted to the cannopy?
With the quick connects?
