Tao Tronics (Chinese LED)

I must have stuck a nerve with the Chintzy peanut gallery

I like quality Chinese built products. It's the cheap Junk with loud fans and odd ringing sounds, non UL listed, built for price point only, fire hazard products that I have a problem with. Got Junk?

here is your answer. The fans are whats causing the noise. There are only 3 moving parts in these lights and they are fans.
How do i know this? I have these lights and have sold several of them to other members here with good reviews (although mine are not taotronics, they are similar). They dont test them before selling them. So you get what you get. I opened the boxes and tested the lights. To replace the fans (which you shouldnt have to do), you will have to cut the wires (they are spliced) and rewire the fan in / solder it. If you are good with that, you can easily do it, if not, I would return the light and find a seller who checks the lights prior to shipping. New lights should NOT have problems, and to say that you got dollar store stuff is ridiculous. These arent $1. They are 150 per each unit, which would end up 450 for 3 lights.. about the same as a decent used t5. You are acting like its $40.

OP if you have a question on how to do this properly, message me and I can walk you through it.

Wow some very touchy people here. What I would do is contact the seller and explain your issue to him (witch I assume you've done already). I have a "black box" from china and love it, The fans are a little louder than some but not a nuisance.

look like good lights for a nice price, everything in aquarium industry is way over priced, nice to see a good deal on lights that work. The noise you can deal with!!:deadhorse1:

I already contacted the seller but they aren't in on weekends so I'll see what they say on monday. They are good lights it just mine are really that loud and I would like to hear my TV too. I'll let you guys know monday what they say

Will they really be that silent afterwards, I mean what if I do this and the ringing is still there? How much will it cost?

There is only one type of moving part, and that is the fans. Figure out which one is ringing, and replace it with something like from HERE. Or, send it back to the seller ( on your nickel, I am sure), and they should replace it for you.

I have two of the taotronics, one on my frag tank and one over my fuge. They are both quiet, though you can heart the fan if close by. There is no ring however, maybe you have one with a loose or missing screw. And just for the critics (To flame :angryfire: or not to flame) I have had mine only 3 weeks.

some times on those computer type fans the wires sag a little from being bounced around douring shipping and rub on the fan itself. find out what fan take the cover off and push up the wires.

I run 4 of these over my 180 and LOVE them. The fans are comparable to my 2 ati fixtures i had over the tank previously. I tried a radion and a Ai fixture and def liked the color and spread of the "cheap black boxes" better. I keep anything from mushrooms to acros in my tank with much success. One of my better purchases i have made for my tank. And with the money i saved from selling my ati's and buying tgese i bauggt a new reef octopus skimmer 8-) . can i afford tge "higher end" leds?? Yes def but i just truly liked these better. Only think i wish is that they were dimmable.

A question:
I bought a TaoTronic LED from eBay. It works but the fan blows air out of the side vents, instead of to the top of the unit. I have a wind blowing on my face when I stand next to the tank. Is it normal?
Thanks

epistars i believe. just put a red digi, green slimmer, and a ponape in my tank tonight. they all look amazing. all opened within half an hour.
