Tatooed fish

I know everyone has seen those dyed freshwater fish that are injected with green, pink or blue dyes. Yes I know it's wierd, cruel, mean, whatever, but I just came back from the LFS around the corner and now you can buy fish like that but they have names, hearts, Christmas trees, Easter bunnies etc on them. Crystal clear in flourescent colors. They even have them stripped and checkerboarded like a checker cab. I don't know how they do it but I think it's interesting, but yes, wierd.
Maybe I could make my hippo tang read "feed Me Worms" or "Eat at Joes"
I could make him green, pink, or purple all at the same time.
I could take a yellow tang and paint him to look like a moorish Idol. I'll be rich

Those poor fish.

I'll bet the poor fish can't afford it.

I am going to go there later to see them better. They were in the shipping bags and I could not get a good look at them.
Even though I feel it is wierd, I would like to know the process. If that dye could last inside a fish for months I am thinking about drugs or nutrients that could do the same thing in fish or corals.
Don't forget, I did not do this, I am just interested in the process and the chemical used. It obviousely does not kill the animal. I have been injecting corals and anemones with various things for a long time, not to change their colors but for other health reasons.

Mostly fish oil but I have tried Selcon and various vitamins. I have not noticed much change either way. You never know until you try. I have also injected guppies many times with fish oil before I feed them to lionfish and angler fish.

I have seen theese fish avalible in freshwater for several years.. from what i have heard from the fish store owner the way it is done is the fish is anestitised(sp?) and it is tatooed the same way you or i would be if we wnet to a tatto shop and got a tatoo of a fish on our arm.. i have heard there is a very high mortality rate..

Its horrible what they do just to make a buck. It hurts the fish and also gives them diseases so they wont live that long. Its not anything to joke about.
