Seriously, where did it come from and will they ever be for sale? If so, are they a type of clam we are familiar with or is it a totally different species. Is it just a Maxima with a really cool pattern? We're all dying to know! (at least I am) :bounce1:

Yes it is a Maxima. I haven't seen any of these in a long time. They came from Soloman Island <sp>

He just happened to get in 6 of them.

This is the first one I have seen in person. I one in a reef magazine. I wish I would have been able to get all 6 of them

My lfs, tropical paradise was able to bring in 3 of those last week and i was lucky enough to catch the last one. im not really into clams, just sps, but i couldn't resist but to purchase one of these. in fact, this is the very 1st clam in my sps dedicated tank. i hesistated on purchasing somewat as the price,$100 was much more than i anticipated on spending on such a nice clam. anyhow, ill post some pics of the one i got soon. its nothing ive seen b4.

Well now I have to kick myself......they had 2 of the teardrop patterns at the LFS, and I passed on them to get my ultra blue. I had no idea they were so rare.....
I did intend to go back when I had the money to get one, but of course they were gone by then. I can only hope the LFS will get some more in (and I'll have the money to spend too!). They were both the brown and selling for $45.

i think they called mine a 'snakeskin' pattern when i got it. would you believe this monster was only 55 bucks? and that they had it for over a week with no takers before i got it?

are the patterns at all genetically linked? can they selectively breed for prettier and prettier clams? or are they more linked to the conditions they are initially raised in?

Is this the same thing? I saw it on Collector's Corner on FFExpress and had to have it! I love that teardrop shape! It comes this Saturday and I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!
