Tear Drop MAximas

I hear a lot of people say they are moree difficult to keep. If you have bought one, please share. Did it die, how soon, and why? Is it still alive? If so, how long, have you noticed new growth?

They're all the same to me.
I've kept this teardrop for about 1.5 years now along with the Blue maxima with no problem.
I dont feed phyto either. Just purely light. But they are all more than 3" when I first bought it. They're about 5-6" now. The Blue max grows alot faster though. in my tank....

I bought 2 almost 4 weeks ago. Both are doing fine.

However, if you read my post somewhere /w pics in this forum, the big one ~6.5" lost its byssal gland. It was only hanging on by a tiny thread, so I said, what the heck and I sliced it off (the whole dang thing... looks like a tongue). LOL! I feared it got ripped off during the harvest. I'm still not sure if it was or not but it's still alive and very healthy looking.

Alas, I discovered my tank has a lot of pyramid snails after staying up till 2-3am after introducing my new gold tear drops. So far so good, the population is still low but sooner or later, I'll have to remove all my clams (12) into a barebottom QT.

some of the teardrop maximas collected from vietnam aren't collected properly, and die from torn byssal glands from improper extraction, which is where the stories from poorly surviving teardrop maximas come from

I hear w. TD's that there are higher mortality rates with the larger specimens vs the smaller.

I bought one about 3 weeks ago. And its doing great so far. btw its about 3 inches/

I have had my 7" TD maxima for over 2 years now. It grows pretty slowly, but every month or so I see a tiny section (millimeters only) of new scute. It is on the bottom of our 30" tank with 2 * 400w radiums and a 250w 10K DE (250g tank) .
