Tech M and Bryopsis

I know there are several threads relating using Tech-M to kill of bryopsis. I've watched youtube videos and such. However, the reason I'm starting a new thread is just to state - I had no idea it would take so much Tech-M!!

I started with Magnesium that was a little low anyway - 1280mg/L. After using TWO 16oz bottles, my mag is only up to 1400!!

I just wanted everyone to realize that it takes a good amount of TechM to really raise your mag level.

Obviously, that's dependent on tank size. My full system is around 180g. But watching the videos, everyone always shows the 16oz. bottles.

Just look ahead if this is a process you want to do, and do the math....you might need a 64 oz bottle!

I used it years back with great success. I brought my tank up to about 2000mg and it started dying off after a week or so.

To bring 180 gallons of water up from 1400 to 2000, you need about 197.5 oz (1.6 gallons). I'd bring it up at a rate of 100-200MG a day and hold it at 2000 for a week and then let it fall on its own.

Here is the calculator I used for figuring the dosage out out.

Make sure you monitor your Ca and Alk and keep an eye on your corals.

I'm in the planning stages of maybe attempting to use TechM. After reading so many people saying that it's done harm to there sps corals, I'm worried I'll be next. I do want to get rid of this stuff but I don't want to sacrifice my stock.

Some people have to go higher than 2000 to get it to work.

I had a Setosa coral begin to recede, but it didn't die. It's recovering now.

I just fought this algae.

Kent M Tech w. mag up to ~1800, manual removal, change media out weekly and skim a bit heavier.

It WILL take 3-5 weeks from my experience.
