Teddyzaper's 25g Mr. Aqua cube build

Quick update, nothing new.

Medusa ate today! for her first time! she is still looking beautiful and healthy. The algae has subsided and is now almost totaly under control. These darn snails dont do anything :headwally: at least thats how it feels. i always see them roaming around the tank. Ive decided to add sand and i will be going with a macro garden. I will have some sand spreading Macro algae with Plate corals and some rock structures with LPS and SPS. Instead of stuffing the tank with corals i will carefully pick each coral and add them thoughtfully as to create a zen garden feeling.

Sadly when i went to feed Medusa she was MIA, i found her INSIDE the stand dried out. i placed her back into the tank but after a hour she didnt move so we had a funeral for her :( Its amazing, the only way she couldve gotten out was either by jumping 7in through a hole or a tiny hole about 1/8 of an inch wide, which is the only way to get into the stand. Wierd, she will be missed.

i think im going to let the tank take its course. Im going to stay away from any fish that jump. I still think i want sand, so i may go with some sort of burrying goby and some others. I dont know..... we will see.

well since Medusa passed away i decided i should make the changes i wanted. I made the rockscape lower and it now looks a lot less cluttered. I also set a mark in my sump for ATO and cleaned up everything. Its still cloudy from moving all the rock (there wasnt very good flow) so once that clears up and i get the rest of the water into the sump ill post pictures.

I am sorry for your loss

Have you considered a Sebea Anemone and a pair of skunk clowns? I just bought some and love them. I was told that the skunk clowns are more peaceful than other clowns. It is really awesome to watch them loving on the anemone.

Anyways I will be tagging along with you and your journey.

Adult skunks can get pretty nasty too when they become territorial.

I have decided on a stocking list and i will be getting them for christmas.

3 longspine cardinalfish
1 tomato/skunk clownfish
1 yellow watchman goby

2 cleaner shrimp
3 sexy anemone shrimp
2 porcelain crabs

total: $217 with shipping

I will be getting 2 shipments, approximately 3 weeks apart so they can get accustomed.

Hopefully i stick to this plan. I will be adding corals in the meantime and adding sand soon!

Just ordered 15lbs of Flammingo pink sand, i think thats the name. When i get it and the water unclouds i will post pics of new rockwork and my final verdict on my fish orders.

I am kind of seeing this now with my clowns. One will chase anything away from the area around the anemone.

If you get the cardinal fish, have you thought of getting a long spine urchin? They will host in it, well in theory.

I know tomato clowns are mean. If you get 2 you can get free fish food if they spawn!

I love my cleaner shrimp they are out in the open or right under a rock in plain site. My fire shrimp just hides :thumbdown

Cant wait to see it.

Long time no see!!!!!!!

BIG UPDATE:

so i got my sand, redid my aquascape, finalized my fish (im just going to stuff inverts, not really a stocking list for them) and.... NEW INHABITANTS! :celeb1: finaly!

I don't recall if it's been recommended to you to set up a GFO reactor, but if it hasn't I highly recommend one.

And I know you do not want to hear this, but I highly, highly, recommend you do not add anything more to your tank unless it's snails to help combat your algae. That anemone doesn't look healthy either, but I'm not too familiar with them in general. If you can, try and take it out. If it dies in your tank, it could prove to be deadly.

You need to get the algae problem under control now, before it gets sooo bad it takes over your tank completely.

I am no algae expert of any kind, and I highly suggest you head over to the algae section of the forums here, for help - be it on what to dose, what snails to add to help etc. There's also techniques to help eliminate the algae on the rock already. I've seen people cut as much as they can off, scrub the rocks, and even let the rock "dry" outside for days or weeks to kill everything on the rocks. Later, put the rock(s) back in. And also, I'd cut the light to maybe an hour or two a day. Nothing longer until you get the algae under control.

---------------------------------------------

And what are you doing for WC's? How much, how often and are you using RODI?

i just got the nem when i took those pics, its happy and buried into the sand (LTA). I am getting a GFO reactor after christmas, and i scrape my algae off the rocks every other day or so. All my params have been stable for over 1 month now so i dont think the algae will go away over time.

water changes every week, sometimes 2 times a week. pretty much whenever i get time. About 5-10 gallons and yes, im using RO/DI water. I preheat the water and mix it with salt for about 3 hours before adding it to the aquarium.

my skimmer is starting back up after a short break, probably because there was nothing at all in the tank. Hopefully it can help pick up some algae that is free floating.

Thanks for the concern!

If you don't get rid of the algae problem now, it will consume your tank and you'll have an expensive algae tank. It will cover everything.

Your water parameters are very much likely in check because the algae is consuming all the nitrates and phosphates. Therefor, your tests are showing zero - yet your tank is actually showing the results - the large bundles of algae.

I seriously advice you post a thread here:

Have you tested the water going back into your tank, during a WC? Maybe your introducing N03/PO4 into the tank through the WC.. What are you feeding the tank, how much, and how often?

ill see what i can do about expediting the gfo. I have had this algae for a little bit, and although it seems to get a little bit thicker it doesnt spread off the rocks it is on.

I dont test for phosphorous. although, i think the lighting started it, because at the beginning of this tank i let the light stay on for 10+hrs, not thinking that algae would start. I am definatly only having 1 hr of light per day, i originaly planned 4, but 1 would be better right now.

Oh, I assumed you tested for PO4, since you said all your parameters where in check... :o
