Tek Light Elite availability

Seems in the recent few years IceCap has done a few things that do not make sense to me. The 660 and 430 ballast are bulky, but they could have used them if anything, in a remote ballast box to keep the fixture slim and attractive. There is alot of competition in the T5 market, no room to put out a mediocre fixture with a high dollar name; word gets around quickly in this hobby, both good, bad and sometimes unjust.

One would think with Sunlight's R&D dept. this thing would have been out by now. Maybe they will get the bugs worked out soon, would be nice if they could match the ATI in performance, would be a BIG day if they could beat it.

I agree completely on the Icecap issue, I just don't understand why they don't make a fixture and run their 430 or 660 on it, it would only make sense.

Aqua Medic Oceanlight T5 fixtures are near impossible to get right now unfortunately. There is a large shipment of them coming in about 6-8 weeks, which at that time we'll get them tested and see how they compare.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Following this thread closely - thanks for all the information! So let me ask you this - for a standard 90g tank with SPS and clams, what light fixture (T5, not MH) would you recommend? 6 bulb Tek Elite? 8 bulb Tek Elite? or 6 bulb ATI sunpower?

I am going to recommend the ATI sunpower! I have owned both fixtures from sunlight supply and the ATI; ATI hands down. Now the elite maybe and i cant stress maybe enough if you had a much wider tank. Since its a standard 90 defintely ATI the teks flood more light from front to back which fillls the room more than the tank. AtI was extremely focused!

If I have the money I will always buy the ATI. If I dont have the cash I will save until I can get an ATI.

P.S. I returned my Tek and the ATI sunpower now sits over my 90 AGA, amazing output.

Yeah, I always hear good things about the ATI. My only concern is that the tank is wider than the ATI fixture (which only covers about 1/2-2/3 of the tank. So if the light from ATI is so focussed, I worry that the corals/clams outside the perimeter of the light will lose out in PAR - whereas the 8 bulb Tek elite covers just about the entire tank.....therein lies my dilemma

For an 18" front to back tank, the ATI 6 lamp fixtures would be best in my opinion. If it's over 18", then I would say go with the 6 lamp Elite, or 8 lamp Elite, or spend the money on an 8 lamp Powermodule.

Not sure if it matters to you, but the ATI only uses a hanging kit. I would get with ATI myself but I can't hang the fixture so I need mounting legs which the TEK has as an option.

Good point. Is there any way to use the Tek legs with the ATI fixture, just to prop it above the tank somehow? I have a set of Tek legs from an older fixture. But hanging the fixture is not an option for me either...

I haven't read of anybody doing that. I saw a thread a couple of weeks ago that had a couple of suggestions. Most seem to buy the light hanging poles that attached to the back of your aquarium stand or the wall behind the aquarium. Since my tank is already setup that would be impossible to install and I'm not sure the wife would like it. I'm not too worried about the light being spread out since I currently have a halide/t5 hood on the tank and I'm guessing it won't spread out the light any more than the T5's I have now.

Just wondering if anybody has done any testing on or actual comparison on the old tek fixture vs the elite. Is the elite producing more par ? I know the marketing hype, but I am just curious as if an option to buy either a 6 bulb elite or the 8 bulb old style for almost the same price what would be a better buy. There is still no word on the 8 bulb elite as to when it will be out.

Any reviews up yet on the Aqua Medic OceanLight T5? I'm very interested in how the 6x54 compares to the ATI and Tek fixtures in terms of both spread and intensity.

Following this one too. I have a 90 and will be upgrading to either the ATI or the TEK and I have a question about the ATI. Do they come with bulbs? I know the TEK doesn't and I would have to spend a lot more on good bulbs for it. Thus narrowing the justification of cash difference. Thanks!

Neither the ATI or the TEK come with lamps, however we can offer a package deal if you buy them with the lamps. Personally, I would do the ATI on a 90g system, as the focus is more in the 18" area front to back that you have. If you had a 24" front to back system then I would lean towards the Tek.
