Temp fluctuations?

Hello,
I recently hooked up my Apex controller to my new 300 gallon. Everything was working great when i noticed the temperature would jump every few hours from what i assume is the correct temp, such as 79.5, to an extremely low temp such as 55.7. It will stay low then suddenly go back up to the correct temp again. It's extemely frustrating cause i'm trying to stabilize the tank parameters. What could be causing this?

Possibly interference from another device. Try re-routing the temp probe cable, even if temporarily outside the tank and see if problem diminishes.

If this is an old probe, the probe could be failing.

Ok...i've tried a bunch of different routes for the temp probe. It still jumps occasionally from 75 ish to 53 ish. I have a drop- in glass thermometer and the temp is 79ish continuously. Even when the controller says that it's 75 ish in the tank, it still fluctuates a couple of degrees. I've tried numerous placements but still the same problem. I'd love to resolve this issue so i can hook my heaters up to the controller and have peace of mind. What could possibly be causing this?

Sounds like a faulty probe then. Normally though, if they fail you'll get a reading of about 20 degrees.

You should be able to correlate these temp fluctuations against outlets turning on/off by examining your XML outlet log and your XML data log. If you can't find anything there that would indicate interference, then I'd chase the faulty probe as the problem.

If new, they have a 90 day warranty. You can call Neptune support and see what they say.

Ok..i'm still having the same problem with the temp probe. EXTREMELY frustrating! I've moved the cable to different locations. I've even move the base module out of the fish room into my living room to see if i can remove any interference. I just updated the firmware and still no dice! AAAAHHHH! How inconvenient! I purchased the Apex a year ago but never got the tank setup til last month so i believe i'm screwed on the 90 day warranty. What would cause the interference?
