Thank you!!
So, a quick update...
I have added a few fish over the course of the past couple of weeks. A diamond goby, a gorgeous pair of picasso clowns, and a hippo and desjardini sailfin tang.
Aside from some aggression on the part of the (overly territorial) yellow tang directed towards the sailfin, everyone is doing swimmingly (HA!). Everyone is eating a ton and is fattening up nicely.
I have always been primarily a fish lover, so having the bigger tank has been awesome for me, because it gives me the flexibility to have fish I wouldn't have put in my old 120.
Current tank inhabitants include:
Tangs:
Blonde Naso
Yellow
Hippo
Sailfin
Pair of Bangii Cardinals
Pair of Picasso Clowns
Flame Angel (who eats pellets, flakes, frozen, and basically anything I put in the tank)
Diamond Goby.
On the coral front, I've been experiencing some browning/fading of some of my SPS.
I test Alk daily with a Hanna Checker (probably overkill, but I think it is worth the 1 ml of reagent and the 45 seconds of my time). And use dosing pumps for all additions and an Apex to monitor PH, Temp etc.
Chemistry is consistently as follows:
Alk: 8.4-8.6
PH: 7.9-8.1
Cal: 425
Mag: 1400
PO4: .01-.02
NO3- 0.00-0.25
I am using BRS for two part, I supplement with 10 mls a day of Kalk via dosing pump (which I will increase as demand goes up, it helps keep PH up)
I dose 10 mls of NO3PO4X daily via dosing pump
I dose 4 mls a day of each of the four Red Sea coral colors additives via dosing pump
I am adding 30 mls of Red Sea Reef Energy every few days (no set schedule, just when I remember).
So I don't think it is a chemistry thing. I actually think it might be a "Too Much Light" thing. In the absence of a PAR monitor (which I am thinking of picking up), I decided to turn the Kessils down about 5% at each of the points during the day on the Kessil controller. I also turned down the color on the Kessils about 5% at each point, making them bluer.
My plan is to keep everything as is, and reassess in a few weeks.
Any thoughts?
