I really like your whole set up. I have a question about the eductors you installed. I have seen eductors for sale at Bulk Reef Supply but they have a male threaded end. Did you just pop the nozzle off the loc-line and screw the eductor on ? Can't seem to find any info on this. I have a 36" long tank. Do you think an eductor would create too much flow? I have a bit of film on my water that I would like to break up.

Eric

I have one on my 30x30 it doesn't really create that much extra current but my return only does about 4x turnover on my tank. Most of my flow comes from my pumps in the display.

In the video link I see the older nozzle directly attached to the pvc "T". However in the picture above of your tank it looks to me like you have the eductor attached to a small section of loc-line which then goes to the "T". Do I see that wrong?

Awesome thanks for the pic. Looks like your eductor came attached to the loc-line. Where did you buy them? The ones I could find online only have the nozzle part of it.Thanks again.

Bulk Reef Supply.

I also finished the stand today. I was unhappy with the final product. It felt unfinished where the stand met the tank. So I added a 3" trim piece around the top:

Thank you!!

So, a quick update...

I have added a few fish over the course of the past couple of weeks. A diamond goby, a gorgeous pair of picasso clowns, and a hippo and desjardini sailfin tang.

Aside from some aggression on the part of the (overly territorial) yellow tang directed towards the sailfin, everyone is doing swimmingly (HA!). Everyone is eating a ton and is fattening up nicely.

I have always been primarily a fish lover, so having the bigger tank has been awesome for me, because it gives me the flexibility to have fish I wouldn't have put in my old 120.

Current tank inhabitants include:

Tangs:

Blonde Naso
Yellow
Hippo
Sailfin

Pair of Bangii Cardinals
Pair of Picasso Clowns

Flame Angel (who eats pellets, flakes, frozen, and basically anything I put in the tank)

Diamond Goby.

On the coral front, I've been experiencing some browning/fading of some of my SPS.
I test Alk daily with a Hanna Checker (probably overkill, but I think it is worth the 1 ml of reagent and the 45 seconds of my time). And use dosing pumps for all additions and an Apex to monitor PH, Temp etc.

Chemistry is consistently as follows:

Alk: 8.4-8.6
PH: 7.9-8.1
Cal: 425
Mag: 1400
PO4: .01-.02
NO3- 0.00-0.25

I am using BRS for two part, I supplement with 10 mls a day of Kalk via dosing pump (which I will increase as demand goes up, it helps keep PH up)

I dose 10 mls of NO3PO4X daily via dosing pump

I dose 4 mls a day of each of the four Red Sea coral colors additives via dosing pump

I am adding 30 mls of Red Sea Reef Energy every few days (no set schedule, just when I remember).

So I don't think it is a chemistry thing. I actually think it might be a "Too Much Light" thing. In the absence of a PAR monitor (which I am thinking of picking up), I decided to turn the Kessils down about 5% at each of the points during the day on the Kessil controller. I also turned down the color on the Kessils about 5% at each point, making them bluer.

My plan is to keep everything as is, and reassess in a few weeks.

Any thoughts?

The finished stand looks great. The trim piece you added last was a very nice addition and completes the look nicely.

Congrats on the new additions to the tank. But myself being a clown lover especially Picasso's post up some close ups if you get a chance :)

Some more updates!

I finished the integrated refugium in the basement. The drains now flow into the fuge, then into the old sump:
