Well I just got back from a vacation in Tomales Bay (Just one bay south of Bodega Bay)

Tested the sea water down there just for kicks, the results may supprise you. Granted it's cold water not tropical but very interesting none the less.

PH:9.1
Temp: 54.5
Cal:350
Alk:9.6
Amo:0
Niti:0
Nita:0
Phos:0
Salin:1.0245

The PH blew me away!!
I also have a weird creature video I will post when I get it off my camera, We will see if anyone can identify it.
I have never seen anything like it!!

First off testing the water parameters on your vacation is a classic reef nerd move - good job

Second that video is a trip and was also pretty funny with the whole gumby comment. I don't know what the hell that thing is, reminds me of a music maker guy (if anyone knows what I'm talking about). Strange stuff in the sea...

Ya you are :lol2: But at least you came back and shared your data with the rest of us fish geeks:thumbsup:

Reef nerd is correct.. Kudos...but how nerdy are you.....Not to try to be the killjoy or nonappreciative what so ever....just devils advocate......be it my Mechanical Engineering studies and forgive me....

Question....How far off coast were you....

How many times did you sample and test?

ph and alk seem a bit high....could it be because of the above two?
What do you think attributed to that.....that kid upstream with a calming look of satisfaction on his face?

Thank you regardless.....I lived off the coast near Eureka for 20 years and never did the same, so you are one up than me......

am I wrong or just a bigger nerd to assume so much?

So much is it late and I am kidding......

I took the samples from the middle of the bay on a ripping incomming tide (fresher water)
Surface water depth.

Only sampled once.

:)

Truth is out! Steve wasnt willing to get his knees wet for us!

I would think the pH to be high if your getting it off of the frothy top, makes sense. Maybe if you got a sample from some less turbid water a few feet down from the surface it would be more reflective of the overall pH, just a thought.

hahah no I was in a 14 foot aluminum boat, so my kness were already wet.
:)

yeah in looking back I would like to get some from a few feet down.

Humph. A REAL reef geek would have been out there dumping thousands of gallons of phosphoric acid into the bay to bring the pH back into acceptable levels and towing a barge-sized bag of rowaphos to deal with the increase in phosphates.

Just in case Mother Nature needs a little help ;)

Nice. The sad thing is.... there are alot of people in here that would've been right there beside you alll stoked taking samples with you..... uh.... including me.
