I want to say thank you to Frank Burr for a great presentation. I also want to especially thank you for the nice raffle donation... I am pleased to say that bad boy is the newest addition to my tank. :rollface:

To John at Your Reef... A big thanks as well. I don't know what the piece is called but, the other newest addition is an Acropora from you... that I won in the raffle. :rollface:

First off the talk Frank gave was REALLY good. While I already knew what the different coral pests were, I certainly did not realize there was that much involved in removing them all. That was one of the most helpful presentations I have been privy to learning. I also can't wait to see what that SPS looks like and am excited for Auntbeez to post a PIC!!!!

I also wanted to thank John for such an awesome donation. Holy ****ake mushrooms are those pink zoo's my wife won bright. The best part of the donations from John is that he donates for FREE!!! He is a big reason the Raffle table has looked so good..

Based upon Frank's presentation last night, I'm pretty sure I have a large infestation of Planaria (red flatworms) in my nano. I didn't take any notes (stupid me). What did he recommend to use in tank?

I think it was Flatworm eXit. Although I believe it was mentioned that TMCPP (can't remember what it stands for, possibly Total Marin Coral P-something P-something) is the best overall and will also kill the planaria.

Also, thanks to Frank for the awesome presentation. I have already pulled 5 sundial snails (zoanthid snails) out of the tank. Who knew? I thought they were cool. Oh well, they have to go. The talk was very informative and it sounds like Frank really knows his stuff. I can't wait to get a look at his book. Dip dip dip.

I have and use flat worm eXit.
He recomended 5x the recomeneded dosage, and then do a large water change with carbon 24 hours later...

My son comes with me to the MARS meetings, which for a 6 year old, you can imagine its not the highlight of his day. He does rather well for the most part, my little nerd. Anyhow, this weekend we had a discussion on the differences between mammals, reptiles, etc. and what characteristics they share that helps you know which category to place them in. We discussed egg laying and live births, etc. as being one of the differentiators. To emphasize the point, I asked him to name off things he knew that laid eggs - got you typical response: chickens, snakes and "acropora eating flatworms, zoanthid eating nudibranchs, but not red bugs - we no longer think they lay eggs." Ha! So Frank, well done! My son even picked up a thing or two.

(IN TANK) Use the Flatworm Exit at 5x strength, after 1 HOUR, start siphoning the dead Planaria from the tank, do the water change and add carbon within a couple of hours. As soon as the Planaria die, they release toxins, so you need to get as much as possible out of the tank right away. In a Nano, if you waited 24 hours for the water change and carbon, you could lose everything in the tank.

The TMPCC should only be used as a dip, NEVER in tank.

Thanks Frank! I did some siphoning the other day, just to see if I could make a dent. Got a bunch of planaria with 2 gallons (out of 10) but 2 days later the tank looked the same again. I'll be trying the FWE soon.
