Thank you for 17 great years..... with that "probable torn achilles" your going to be in the fight for your life. Its painfull. I have tore my left achilles and took me 2 years to be over it. Soo we all know your a warrior. Hopefully you will be back sooner than later.

he put everything on the floor
his legs are way over work and even after the 2 injuries on the floor today he keep on fighting and 3 injuries might be the last...

best player ever in my books.
thank you

Great job dumbtoni for running him to the ground. And great job Jim Buss for hiring dumbtoni. Those two idiots deserve each other.

I have come to expect him to battle back from injury much faster than most. Torn achilles is approx 1 year to recoup, so his playoffs are finito. I really hope its a false alarm, and he will come back sooner, however it did not look good.

The fastest recovery for this injury in the nba is 200 days. I hope they don't amnesty him. Very sad after the amazing season he was having

He will be amnesty
To get a player another player to make the lakers better
He will understand and he will be back

This is horrible news for the sports world. I'm not a Laker fan but I respect Kobe's talents. Hope to see him in the starting line up soon. As far as amnesty goes, with the new rules and Jim busses history I do agree amnesty is in the picture but only if Kobe doesn't return as Kobe. All I can see is all the greats ending their careers early cause of a injury similar to Kobe's, to name a few, Isaiah's Thomas, Charles barley and the only active player with a similar injury , Chauncey bill ups.

No way a competitor as rare as Kobe is will ever leave the game without it being on HIS terms. NO way!! He will be back. He is 34, not 43 and in incredible shape. I love the "dumbtoni" and "jim buss" references. Classic

I just saw that he already had the surgery. If that isn't a confirmation he will return I don't know what is

Kobe won't go out like this. I don't blame dantoni, even though he is a horrible coach, Kobe is a competitor and he wanted to play those minutes to help his team get into the playoffs. How many players you know tear there achilles and come out and sink two crucial free throws? Hands down hardest worker/toughest player in the nba. And in my opinion greatest player ever!
Mamba will be back!! All of Los Angeles is sad it's even gloomy out.

Can he retire and comeback ?
Even though he doesn't need the money anymore
Give him severance package then sit a year while on rehab

That's up to kobe but he is owed 35 mill and that's why the amnesty clause was brought up. If he retires and returns the chances of him staying a laker is a lot lower. If he stays a laker they can offer more to keep him. Do U really see Kobe in Boston! I think Buss doesn't care and has probabaly already moved on deciding how 2014 will turn out. Good for the franchise very bad for Kobe lovers.

The amnesty from my understanding and please correct me if I'm wrong. If Kobe returns and the lakers franchise feels he isn't worth keeping anymore they can release him. What that means is he gets his salary but it doesn't reflect the lakers cap. This is a very big deal right now because it saves the Lakers about 45 mill. As basketball fans we know the Lakers has always given the finger to the cap but in 2014 the NBA has applied even more strict rules. One of the rules was any team over the cap will have to pay $1.5 for ever $1 over the cap. Since the Lakers already know they may lose kobe and he wants to retire they can and may cut their losses. Lakers will revamp and its just gonna happen one year sooner and with a little more capital.

This is great news for Howard fans. If somehow he starts to dominate that means $$ for him. Looks like the changing of the guards will happen sooner but I'm not dumb enough to bet against kobe returning and doing ok at the least.

With the luxury tax amnesty will actually save Lakers about 90 million.
But he will be back by the start of next season so he will not be amnistied and it's moot.
