Thanksgiving 120 gallon picture

Reef "Hobbyist"...right!?
I usually post a bit about my tank in the general forum but since my mixed tank has quite a bit of SPS I thought I would share with the SPS crowd. Here is a FTS from Thanksgiving day.

Thanks for taking a look.

Lets get more info on this amazing tank!

any tank thread on this tank?

Hi, thank you! The tank is very simple without a lot of bells and whistles. Lighting is 8 X 54 T5 in a standard TEK fixture. I use an old Euroreef RS 250 needle wheel skimmer. I only dose homemade 2 part through BRS 1.1 ml dozers and Mg as needed. Water changes are done 5 gallons weekly.
I do not have a build thread but I do have a thread where most if the pictures over time are kept. I can post a link if you are interested but not a lot of info there other than progress pictures. Thanks for your comments.

Sweet looking tank! Makes me want to go clean the basement, so I can get started on a new setup. Keep up the great job.

What do you feed your clam and how often? And what par do you think you have him under? Just wondering if I'm meeting the needs of mine :)

I occasionally broadcast feed the tank with coral frenzy but nothing specific for the clam.
I honestly do not know PAR values for my lighting but use ATI bulbs in my TEK fixture. If I remember correctly, I think the testing Grim did on the bulbs was with a TEK fixture. I certainly have less PAR than a higher end ATI fixture but the TEK is more than adequate for most corals/clams. For what it is worth, Derasa's are not as light demanding as other clams.

What is your ATI T5 combo? Your tank looks lovely! Those are beautiful SPS colonies!

Hi Sahin!
I am playing around with my bulb combo right now and trying to find what I like as I am looking for a change. The picture I posted is under 5 blue plus, 2 purple plus, and one coral plus.
The tank was grown out under 5 blue plus, 1 purple plus, 1 coral plus, and 1 GE 6500.
I am wanting to skip the 6500 bulb this go around and just ordered an array of new bulbs waiting to be shipped. I may end up going with 5 blue plus, 1 purple plus and 2 coral plus. I also ordered an extra purple plus, super actinic 03, and aqua blue special to play with. If I end up using the aqua blue special, I will probably try mixing in the actinic. We will see when the bulbs get here. I just wanted to blue things up a bit from the 6500 bulb. The 5 blue plus, 2 purple plus, and 1 coral plus may be too blue for me. Switching to 2 coral plus may do the trick. This is what I love about T5's. Being able to tweak the spectrum easily.
Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate your input in the SPS forums.

Thanks for the response. Have a look at Yariels tank. He runs the 5xBlue+, 2xPurple+ and 1xCoral+. He has beautiful colours: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2277871

There is another guy on the other forum who uses the 5xBlue+, 2xPurple+ and 1xABSpecial with similar amazing colours.

I always ask the T5 combo when I see nice tanks because I sort of keep a record of nice tanks and their T5 combos. Sad I know LOL but it helps getting an idea of what works etc.

Any chance of a topdown shot of the green tabling acro on the upper top right side of your tank? That is a beautiful piece for sure.

How long has this tank been running?

Wow! Yariels tank is wonderful for sure! awesome colors.

My tank has been under T5's for almost 2 years now ( was under 175 watt halides for a year before that). The corals have been in the tank for nearly 3 years but nearly all of the growth has been under the T5's the last 2 years and all the SPS started as 1 inch frags from a local reefer.
The tabling acro is a sunset Mille. I do not have a top down shot now. I will see if I am able to get a decent picture of it soon for you.

Do you need a controller to run the brs dosers? Im planning to order two of them this week because im currently using airline tubing and an air valve to drip my alk/cal two part and I really want to dial it in better with the brs dosers. Ive never owned an automated doser but they are on sale for 45$ a piece. I just wasnt sure if I needed to buy a seperate controller to run them or if they can be operated without one? Thanks alot, and beautiful tank btw!!
