The 120g BB diary of a madman...

elephen

Just found your 120g thread, Looking good:) I'm gonna be interested in how you do your rock work.It will be about 2 weeks before i see my 120g again and start to get it running.

Well as I stated in a few pages before this one I have about 180lbs of rock cooking and from there I'll decide my aquascape.

I want it to be VERY open to give fish room to swim plus my SPS room to grow.

I will not use all of the rock, the rest I'll probably use to setup my 60g cube that is currently in the garage (24x24x24). Total I'll probably have 100lbs of rock in the display and none in the sump.

I have ordered a new injector for my Bullet-2. PM came out with a new injector that is basically the baddest out there, definately most innovative and logical.

This is from the PM site...

Bullet Models 2,3 and all XLââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s use the below Precision Marine designed injector. The entire injector disassembles for complete and thorough cleaning.

While the entire injector assembly is completely removable, once the injector body is threaded onto your skimmer, it never has to come off! The custom machined Precision Marine, Quik-Lok lid simply twists on and off making a positive seal. You can either hard plumb to your pump, or use the supplied insert elbow to adapt to 1ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ i.d. flexible tubing. No dangling plumbing hanging off the side of your injector. Youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll be impressed by the quality, functionality and performance of the entire Bullet Series of Protein Skimmers from Precision Marine.

Includes:

- Schedule 80 Union
- Ozone Port w/cap
- High Quality Air Valve
- JG Speedfit Connectors
- 1ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ Insert 90 (for flexible tubing)
- Custom Made Precision Marine Muffler.

It'll be here Tuesday along with my new massive 1 gallon waste collector so I'll definately post some pictures

Yea I saw that new injector and now I thinking twice about my skimmer choice was going with MRC-3 now I might go with Bullet-3.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Every PM product is superb. They really do it right, they have the proper machinery to build the stuff and they just do it good.

I go with PM because they are the highest quality and IMO have the best beckett design out on the market. They were also the original that everybody copies from... Now what does that say about their product? =D

Well I testing everything last night and the tank is almost done cycling...

PO4: < .01
Nitrate: 10ppm (have 20g of new water made up to do some siphoning and a small water change)
Nitrite: .1ppm

The diatoms are starting to clean up also. Tonight I'm planning on doing some siphoning and then putting in 20g of new water.

Only downside to having a larger tank is that you have to do larger water changes =) But I think I can make due.

I finally got my reactor setup and running. It is almost tuned in, only 1 day too :)

Well here are the latest water perams. All STN seems to have mostly subsided or stopped completely.

I did a 20g water change yesterday and siphoned out a fair amount of detritius.

Alk 9.4dKH
Ca 490ppm (turned the reactor down, a little high)
Nitrate 15ppm
Phosphate .03ppm
Nitrite .20 (almost finishing up the small cycle we had when switching over)

How's the sound of the new injector ... quieter on the new beckett setup?

The one I have is perfectly functional - but that looks much like the MRC silencers which seem quite nice from what I've seen in use [heard :)].

I got a the AquaZone Deluxe 100mg-hr which is the one with the ORP probe, the controller (with the lcd screen) for $300 from RTS.

So you decided to go for ozone? (I took that off a thread in another forum).

Are you updating this thread the same as the one on FH?

MRC got the silencer idea from PM :) The little foam like white deals that is...

Yup going for ozone. Atleast putting in a big order tomorrow along with some other stuff... Filter socks, purigen, more ROWA (those little containers dont last real long) and some other stuff.

Well got my injector yesterday, all I can say is holy crap this thing is wicked.

Took me literally 2 minutes to put it together out of the box. Instructions very precise, clear and easy to follow.

Here it is on the skimmer, nice aesthetics for sure. It takes 2 seconds to remove the top of the beckett housing, screws off. Then you have direct access to everything in the beckett housing along with the beckett foam head itself. No more darn thumbscrews! :)

As you can see this skimmer makes some wicked nasty funky gunk.

Took me all of 2 minutes to install it on my Bullet-2, and 1.9 minutes was taken by removing the old beckett housing.

I really have no performance reviews/data on this as of yet since I only spent about 10 minutes tinkering with it. Although my foam production does seem to be a little more stable for some reason.

Oh one more thing... I dropped this on accident in my kitchen (on hardwood floors). These things are AMAZINGLY tough and can take a beating being they are a machined PVC.

Highly recommend this product for sure.

Where has this thread been hiding? You have made some great progress, this is going to be a very nice tank.

How do you keep temp stable? Do you have a chiller?

That is one sweet injector, do you have your skimmer draining to the PM waist collector, or did you diy something?

I will have to subscribe to this before it dissapears again.

Thanks,
Whiskey

I have the LARGE PM waste collector, it arrived yesterday with the new injector -- dam its huge. It makes my old cheap waste collector look like a paper towel roll, HAHA!

As far as keeping temp stable I used to use a Ranco dual stage temp controller but the unit caught fire so I have it in a box in the garage.

Right now I just use 2 4" IceCap variable speed vans in the canopy that point down and blow the air under the pendants, that helps a ton.

This winter I don't have any issues with heat but this summer I will I'm sure, I always skimp out since AC is so expensive to run, although the tank is in a room which is in the basement so that helps a bunch... But as long as a fan stays going hardcore in the canopy the temp stays 80-82.

I'll post some new pics and video tonight.

How did you Ranco catch on fire? I ask because I use one, was it your fault or the controlers? What exactally torched?

I will be looking out for those pics.

Whiskey

Well it was something inside the Ranco that burnt up. It didn't actually catch fire but it sure melted the hell out of just about everything inside of it.
