Micki, I am really sorry to read this. I know that sometimes when things are going 'swimmingly' well, trouble is always waiting to take over. I keep thinking this not because I'm a pessimist-I try not to be, but a realist when it comes to reef and saltwater fish.
These systems really are such a delicate balance and the tiniest thing (a microscopic parasite or bacteria) can take it out of whack bigtime. And it always seems to happen when we are the most taxed with dealing with other issues in our lives.
Don't beat yourself up over decisions you made...you did what you thought was best at the time. Keep us updated on the progress of the other fish and your reef.
Hang in there Micki--tell that Murphy to take a hike :)

Thanks arbee. I've been telling Murphy to take a hike for most of the last 44 years!!! :)

I'll have things back up and running in the next few wees or so. :)

One thing you can do to give yourself a little more advantage in the future, is to keep a QT tank running and at the ready. A lot of people can't do this but I think you might be able to find the room. BUT, 10 gal. is certainly not large enough for the size system and fish you have. And another note...it's so hard to make the right decision. We often second guess ourselves, but you did get a gut feeling and just didn't follow it. I do it all the time.

I think starting up Ozone may have caused some of the grief in that you changed the water chemistry when there was already stress in the tank.

SO SORRY to hear about your recent events.... but it will get better- and it's crazy, but no matter how many times I've faced anything negative concerning my reef tanks in the years we've had them, (and we've had plenty!), I've never considered backing out of the hobby- cause if you keep on keeping on, it will straighten out! (does this sound like a good sermon, or what? :) I know it's heart breaking to lose the fish though- I actually have a few buried, along side a couple of dogs- our own "pet cemetery"- how weird is that?!

Micki, I really feel for you. Just to share with you, I bought a Blonde Naso and it is in great shape, and has done well. Now there is a spot on the one fin and a bunch of spots all piled up on each other on the tail. I have a bunch of rock and don't know that I can catch him to try the fresh dip. I don't know what to do. I have a lot of shrimp and red legs that I don't want to lose to chemicals. I hope your system is ok now. I am trying to figure out what to do with mine!!!

Jeff

Thanks MaximusUSG, it's a hard decision. I'm in the same boat as you. The fish in my reef have now been affected. If I take the rock and coral out of the reef I risk destroying a lot of coral. I will "attempt" to catch what I can with the trap I have and go from there. It sucks for sure...

so did you drop off the face ofthe earth or what ??

No, it's not been a very good month here. Our son's house burned down. He lost every thing. He is living with us right now. We have been dealing with the insurance company and trying to get things ready to build a new house. A few days after the fire, I left for Florida for 5 days to chaperone my sisters Disney trip. I came home on Wednesday and Saturday night my son went in the hospital with what they thought was pneumonia but now they don't think is is. He just got out this past Friday. He will have to have more testing in the upcoming weeks. Then I was in bed sick all weekend. So as you can imagine I haven't had much time to think about anything other than my family right now.

:sad2: OMGosh Micki--So sorry that you are having such a horrible month. That is awful about your son--but good to know he has you for help. Hang tough--I'm sure everything will get better (they HAVE to!)
PM incoming~
Hugs!
Rita

Thanks Rita, it's been a crazy time for sure. My son is deaf and fire has always been my fear. He wasn't home when it started. In fact I was coming home and have to drive by his house to get to mine and noticed his front door open and smoke coming out of the house. His truck and dog were both there so I thought he was home as well. When I pulled up the neighbor guys came running out of the house asking if my son is with me. They said they heard the smoke alarms and noticed smoke coming out of the front door. They kicked the door in to get my son out but they couldn't fine him. I called my husband and he said he was with him. Had the fire have been at night I doub't my son would have made it out due to where it started it would have blocked him in the bed room. It was electrical and started in the light switch in the family room by the front door. The other door is in the kitchen but you have to go through the liveing room to get to the kitchen. So all in all it was scarey but with a good ending. Now we need to get his lungs figured out and then we will be good to go.

Horrible. Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time. I have a 3 dimmer switch that gets very hot...I am going to change it out today.

Thanks jnarowe, yes PLEASE change that switch out! Eventhough my son was ok and has insurance to cover everything it was still a very emotional time for me. Of course he handled it better than I did. :)

For those that have asked about my son and his health here is the update from today. Unfortunately the news isn't very encouraging. Russell had a repeat Cat Scan last week. We saw the Dr. today. He said it looked a "little" better in terms of congestion but he definitely still has the lymph nodes. He needs to now have his lungs biopsied, however he is sick again... He started running a fever yesterday. They put him on antibiotics and steroids and I am to call him next Monday to let them know if he is better. If he is they will then schedule the biopsy at that time. I was concerned about having to wait yet another week. It's already been a month. The Dr. said he could end up a very sick man if they do the biopsy right now. So really we have no choice but to wait until next week.
