Moved from ohio to Arizona 3 years ago,man do I miss basements. You really become constructive hiding equipment. How the tank doing? Time for an update. :)
 
I love love love that Stand/Hood, they did a great job! Sorry about the break in the sump, but the 100 g rubbermaid looks more than sufficient. I could only get through page 12, so I'm a little behind - But in the meantime good luck, great reef, and I hope to read tomorrow that your new G4X is getting better reviews than its Xless brother!
 
Oldsun, you're right I do need to update! :) The tank is doing fine. The corals for the most part are doing great. I've had a few RTN for no known reason but that's life in the reef I guess. I'll have to work on some new pictures.

TitusvileSurfer, thanks! The rubbermaid has worked great! I'm using the cracked (and fixed) sump in the system but not as a sump. It was empty but a friend of mines tank suddenly sprang a leak and he brought his fish here and we put them in that tank. I was glad I had a place to put them that will also be easy to get them out when he is ready. As for the G4X, I'm very happy with it! I know a few other people that alsy have G4X and like them. I had a G3 prior to this one and was equally as happy with it. I've never used the Xless one so I can't comment on that one.
 
Here are a few shots that might be of interest. I have something that started growing several months ago. I thought it was a ricordia but then I saw a picture of Melev's mini carpet anemone and it resembles that as well. Plus the behavior of this one could be on the anemone list. I don't think it's a majano, at least the ones I've seen look different than this one.

They have been side by side since it started growing and it never did that that I know of anyway. ::)
 
Could also be a type of mushroom. I had a couple come in on my rock that sort of look like brown ricordia but flatter based and longer nubs.
 
What's crazy is I haven't added any thing new to the tank in the past several months. In fact I haven't added any new rock at all since the tank was set up.
 
yeah but you might not see them for years. Mine are extremely slow growers and the only reason why I know they are in the tank is they are right in front of the glass.
 
You might be right. It does seem to grow a little slower but not terribly slow. It's been a good boy until it tried to eat my candy cane! :rolleyes:

I am so sorry to hear about all that you have been going through! I was tagging along on your thread quite a bit ago and just got back on. With your new setup, are you still using your rubbermaid sump and separate fuge? I always admired that set up and wonder how it has stood up over time.
 
Shadylady thank you! I'm still using the rubbermaid and seperate fuge. It's working great! In fact the system has been pushed to the test this year. I've neglected it far more than it should be and it's holding it's own.
 
For anyone interested: I took Russell to Ohio State Lung Center today. First off they had an interpreter!!! Very impressive! Secondly we liked the Dr.!!! He was very patient and actually "wanted" to hear what we had to say! The outcome in a nut shell and this is a very condensed version. He wanted to do a pulmonary functions test and another CT. It's been about 3 months since the last CT and he has never had a PFT done. They were actually able to do them both today and save us a trip back to Columbus! ( We live about 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Colmbus.) Next week he will call me and tell me how this CT compared to the others. He will most likely want to do another bronco scope. He said they can test for things and do cultures of things that other Dr.s and hospitals have never heard of. He also feels he might have some sort of infection that has never completely cleared up. He said his "emphysema" like lungs are a result of his prematurity and the damage done by the ventilator from when he was first born. What he has going on now with the excessive mucus and mucus plugs in his lungs is a separate problem. He said based on his emphysema lung damage alone he will most likely be up for a lung transplant at some point in his life. If we can get things under control and stable he may not need that for 20-30 years. With doing the bronco scope they will do different biopsies and cultures and try to figure out what is going on. If it is something that can be treated and if he responds to treatment we are good to go. However if either they can't figure out what it is or it doesn't respond to treatment he would be on the lung transplant list much sooner.

His lungs in a lot of ways is much like someone with cystic fibrosis. He doesn't have that but presents very similar. So now we wait until next week and go from there.
 
Wow, that's a good report of a very difficult situation. I hope the new doctor can help with this.

That is great news--that at least you and Russell have been given a pathway to proceed. I hope they can figure if this is an infection out and get him good anitbiotics to finally clear it up. If he needs a transplant in the future, this is the best way to get him on the list through OSU Lung Center--it can take so long. The best to you and Russell--I pray and think about you both often.

Thanks Marc and Rita We feel very positive after todays visit.

On another note, my husband has started building Russell's new house! Russell (and Randy and I) are very excited about this! :)
