Male Mandarin

It's starting to look real good, great job!
Couple of questions, are those chromis the same size as your tangs? And if so are the chromis huge or the tangs tiny?
Do you have trouble with the coral beauty and flame angel harrassing each other at all??
Love the powder blue, any problems with him at all, as far as ich and aggression?

Thanks! The largest chromis is about the same size as the powder blue, which is a medium size for PB. The yellow tang is the size of a smaller large tang. So yes, 2 of my 7 chromis are quite large.

I added the coral beauty and flame angel at the same time. In fact when I got them they shared the same bucket on the ride home. For the first week they even shared the same sleeping hole. They have never fought at all.

I have not had any problems with the powder blue, but I also did a 4 hour drip acclimation. She has not shown any aggression, but held her own when the regal tang first approached her. all three tangs get along fine and will eat off the same macro at the same time. I can also had feed any of the three. As for ich, I run a UV 24/7. As you can see from my mandarin picture, I have no problem with pod population. :)

I also run UV 24/7 and have a pair of mandarins. UV is great for water clarity but mostly for the health of the fish.

Agreed! I am looking for a healthy female mandarin. My male was the fattest I had ever seen!

LOL, the baby is doing AWESOME! I need to take an updated picture! And where did I get it from??? Hmmmm, let me see...
Oh yeah! I GOT THE FIRST BABY from JENnKERRY!!! :D

Hi Micki, everytime I think I have found the 'ultimate' measuring stick or plan outlay, I find another one, like what you guys have done. So impressive, great interesting reading. Question, what is distance from the sump to the tank return? I'll probably start a thread asking what the biggest distance is..I'm obsessed with figuring out somehow to get all our gear in our garage or anywhere else, but our house probably isn't conducive to it.

thx..

avansickle, hi there, The total distance from the sump in our basement to the overflow in the tank on the main floor of the house is 10 feet.

If there is a will, there is a way... :D

that uv must do the job because in some of those pictures the fish look more like they are floating in air instead of swimming in water... very nice tank :)

Thank you! I run it 24/7. We only use it on part of the water. I still have tons of pods in the fuge and main tank. My mandarin is very fat! I'm a believer in the UV! :)

You're right, I need to work on some more pics! I'l sdee what I can do in the next few days. :)

Yellow and orange sun coral (I'm looking for a black as well)

A local shop here has one but it is of a branch variety. $25 as I recall and was about 8 or 10 inches long.

The overflow siphon would make me nervous. Air does accumalate over time, if you have a powerhead with an air bleed, you can just pipe a small air line to the top of the U-bend and that will start the siphon as well as keep it air free. I would drill that top tank personally as it is easy to get at and unlikely tempered.

Sure is a nice setup and the livestock looks great

Thanks Randall_James. I got a black sun shortly after that posting. I need to get some pics posted.

I'm a little confused about the air line thing though.
