Thanks Jonathan, The latest issues are by far the hardest we've had to deal with. I'm trying to be tough but it's starting to get a bit hard.

Thanks Jonathan, I appreciate all the thoughts. This is one of the hardest personal times I've been through. It's a great diet plan though...

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time Micki. I hope things will get better for you.

Are you near Cincinnati by any chance? I'm flying out in May to speak to that club and would love to finally meet you.

Thanks Marc and Chris, I hope so too. It's really tough right now.

Marc, I'm a little over an hour from Cincinnati. Hopefully by May things are a little better and I can do that. It would be great to finally meet you as well.

HI Micki,
I am sorry to hear that you are having a tough go of it lately. I think about you and Chris often and hope and pray things will look up soon for you both.
Hang in there....we are all rooting for you!

Well, I wrote a long detailed post and of course RC didn't let it post...

What I said in a nut shell: Russell has been having more breathing problems in the last few weeks. We took him to OSU yesterday. He had a CT of his lungs then we saw the DR. The DR. said the CT was basically unchanged since last July but, the extra lung/lobe that he was born with is apparently causing the problem. (we didn't even know he had this extra lung until last summer). He showed us the CT in motion. It appears the extra lung is producing a lot of excess mucus. It actually produces a puddle of mucus that directly pours into his trachea. In motion is looks like an empty bottle slowly filling to the point that he cant move any air. He then has to do several extra breathing treatments to open his airway up to be able to breathe. So the plan is 1. He will be scheduled for another bronchoscopy and get new cultures. 2. He has an appointment on March 5 with a surgeon at OSU to consider removing the extra lung. To remove this extra lung is risky for anyone due to the nature of the surgery but, with Russell's severe lung disease it's an even greater risk. The decision will be in the Dr's and Gods hands. He is very scared as are we. Last night he asked if he could stay at our house and we said yes. As it turns out he was sick all night with the flu. I had it all last weekend and my other son had it earlier last week. I'm glad he was here.

As for the tanks. With everything going on with Russell and with the other major issues going on in our life right now I'm seriously considering taking them down. My husband doesn't want to. I know he worked so hard on them and I'm very proud of his work but they are no longer an enjoyment to me and actually cause more stress. At this point I think I'm about stressed out...

Micki,
I sure wish I was closer to help you out through this. I can understand your wanting to take down the tanks during this time when Russell needs so much help and support. Is there anyone on your local list that can give you a hand either keeping them up or helping you with taking them over so you can take the time needed away from them?

As far as Russell, I am sure the doctors are doing what is best for him. We are so lucky to live in a time when they can do such amazing things.
And all we can do is pray for his doctors to have the wisdom to do what will help Russell. I've never heard of having an extra lung...amazing.
He has certainly had his fair share of crap for his young age. I can't think of a more heart wrenching situation to be in then to see your child have to suffer ongoing serious medical problems. I saw what my sister went through with my nephew and all you can do is hold on to your family and friends and ask for prayers. I'm not overly religious, but I'll tell you--prayers helped them and our whole family to get through the tough times.

Know that I'm here if you need me...don't hesitate to call. If there is anything I can do--don't hesitate to ask.
And I'll keep saying a prayer that you and Russell can overcome this.
Hang tough girl--we are holding you up ~

Wow! Sorry to hear that Micki.

I was thinking similar to arbee. I would think there is somone in your local area or club that could take care of the tanks for you, or at least babysit your livestock until things calm down. (they will calm down eventually!) Keep your head up and if you get the time read Psalms 55. It may help.

Or perhaps your LFS can do some tank maintenance for a few months so you don't have to worry about the livestock and can just sit back and enjoy it between those hospital visits.

I've never heard of an extra lung either. I hope they take it out, to free up some space for your son to breathe again and stop the drainage situation. :(

Thanks everyone, Enderra, it looks like you posted something but I don't see your post. jhornik I live between Piqua and Sidney Ohio. Walkette, Thanks for the prayer, I'm sure God is working over time on this one. gkarshens Psalms 55 is very helpful.

I'm still waiting to hear the date for the bronch and personally battling some anxiety right now.

UPDATE: On Thursday, I got a call from the Dr. that would be doing the scope. He wanted to do it friday (the next day). The weather was going to be bad so we spent the night in Columbus on Thursday and had the scope on Friday. The scope itself went well but his respirations were very fast and he could not get off the O2. I asked if he could be admitted so we could see the surgeon while we are in house. The docs agreed with that and he was admitted to the floor. However he began having more difficulty with his breathing and was moved to the step down unit. We saw one of the surgeons partners yesterday. He said his actual Dr. will do another scope on Monday to see exactly what he may need to do. If he thinks the surgery is the answer he will most likely have surgery on Thursday. They would removing an actual third lung. The interesting ting I found out, I was under the impression the third lung was attached to the outside of the right upper lobe, however it's actually in the center of his right lung. So removing it may be a little more difficult. Either way, we hope to know something on Monday. He was also started on a bi-pap machine. Essentially a ventilator without being intubated. He has done very well with that. Over all he isn't oxyginating as well as we would like to see but he is hanging in there.
