Melev or any one else that can answer this question: Here is a picture of an acro next to a monti. The monti has grown on to the plug of the acro. Will they meet and that be the end of it or will they have a battle and someone lose? I can break the plug away from the main part of the acro, but how do I kill off the remining part of the monti that is left on the plug, (if I need to do that)? Thanks!

I am not sure when it comes to Acro v Monti, but I have 2 different Montis that have grown into each other and they are growing around each other.

That might be a possibility, but I would rather just move the entire thing since it's all on a plug. I'll see if there is a way to leave a small amount. thansk for the suggestion!

That is possible, hard to say really, the monti is a really fast grower. It would be interesting to see what happens.
Just depends on how healty they both are.

That Monti in my tank has taken over anything it hits

That would be fine with me! I have plenty of caps in other places.

I would leave it and see what it does.

I bet you could extract the plug from the M. capricornis and not even damage it. The lower coral would look funny, as it won't be touching any rock at that point.

There's no reason to kill off any part. Even if there was some left on there, it may grow out a different direction later.

What manufacturer and model of skimmer do you have?

I think the two will battle it out at the leading edges, and the rest of both corals will be fine. I've seen strange things happen. Watch it closely and if you begin to have real concerns, intervene.

I usually leave things alone whenever I can.

I would prefer to leave things alone as well, but I wasn't sure about this one. This is the first time I've had coral grow enough to get close to each other!
