If it has been posted, someone link me to the part about dealing with humidity in the fish room. Mine needs a solution.

I appreciate the votes for TOTM but I would like to wait and let the system settle in and work out any bugs. I am hoping by March or April maybe things should be ready for a larger unveiling. Prostaff- I have quit a bit of large, medium and small rocks. Nothing is zip tied or glued together. I put together a fairly comprehensive PVC rack system prior to any rock placement. After the rack was assemblied I simply placed rocks on top of it to cover the exposed areas. Melev- the humidity was a concern that I researched for over a year and experimented with various options. My final solution was to have two operational windows in the fish room for natural venting. This fish room is my third in the last 7 years so I've had some practice working out the details in the other two prior fish rooms. I've found that simply cracking a window makes a huge difference in the humidity. The fish room is sealed from the rest of the house and if I keep the windows shut the room gets humid fast. But by opening the window just a little the humidity clears up within 15 minutes. By far in all of my fish room set-ups this has been the easiest method to control humidity. Reefev- My system evaps about 12 gallons+ - a day. All top off water has kalk in it. I also have a 40 gallon freshwater (non Kalk) supply in reservoir in case the kalk plugs up.

Lunchbucket- when the tank is a little more mature if they are still interested in having it as TOTM is there someone I should contact?

Energy, you would contact Skipper, editor of ReefKeeping Online.

Thanks for the explanation about humidity. My fishroom is situated in the center of the house, so I don't have that option. A window to outside would be perfect, but right now I have to crack open the garage and the door to the garage area (no cars thus no fumes), but it isn't a good solution. I'm thinking of a vent fan, but I'd also like to use a thermostat to turn on a fan to bring in fresh cooler air from the garage area during the winter months to avoid the room getting too warm without having to run the window a/c unit. During the summer, it is cycling on and off as necessary to keep the room 78F.

If someone from RC has already contacted you then I believe it's an open offer as long as your tank remains TOTM material. I remember reading about another stunning tank that got nominated and selected but the owner just doesn't have the time to write up the article as of yet. But I'm sure that as soon as he does, the tank will go in the next slot. Looks like the tanks are selected 3-4 months prior to being up as Weatherson was selected in August.

when your ready to sign up for tank of the month, let me know. i will swing by and take a bunch more pics with the camera. i think it would take 3 months to properly put together a layout for it. lol the bigger the system the bigger the layout.

Well I got some great stuff foam and fiberglass epoxy, and playground sand and used energys instructions to construct a artificial rock wall for my 70 gal. 1/4 cylinder tank. Man that fiberglass epoxy is toxic stuff out of the can. Use in a very well ventilated area. I'm real pleased with the look of my new pvc wall. I think I'll let it cure a week then put it in a tub of R/O water with a power head to blow any loose sand off of it. My plan is to put some frags of green star polyps on the wall so it can basically take over that wall in my tank. I have been brainstorming an idea to use that realestate in my tank, but diden't know quite how to go about it untill I stumbled on this awesome tank. Truely a lot of great ideas and diy projects went into this stingray reef. Thanks again Energy for the great ideas.

Spazz, you should put together a picture box that could be pushed down into the tank to get more defined pics of the coral in the back of the tank. I notice that I was having problems with that. With a tank that is 5 feet front to back, it is hard to get a defined picture front to back. I think it would be a neat idea. Anyways here are some more pics.

Energy, I don't blame you for wanting to wait for grow in, but it is already O-mazing!

I thought my electric bill was bad.

That deserves tank of the year (or at least 6 months just to give someone else a chance).

Reefez- Glad to hear it worked out for you. Let it set for at least a week to off-gas. Then let it set for another week just to make sure. I would also rinse it real well before filling the tank with salt water. I actually filled the entire tank with cold tap water and let it set for about a week. After that I then stuck a garden hose in the tank, turned it on and let the hose run for 24 hours. After all that I started to fill with RO/DI water which took another 36 days.

Tomasz- The susbstrate is aminly sand with some courser stuff placed in the higher flow areas. The stingray makes a sand storm at least once a day.

Carman- Nice pictures- How's the calendar coming along?

Kent- Thanks for the compliment. I think it would look a little better once it starts to grow together. Kind of like hiding the seams.

Melev,Nexdogg and Spazz, Thanks for the TOTM info.

Looking forward to seeing it carman.

Lunchbucket- The boy is doing well, thanks. Keeping his Momma up all night but hopefully that will change around soon. Getting big fast!

Energy - sorry to hear he isn't sleeping through the night. no problems/sick?

can we get a pic of you "new frag" :D :D i'm sure we all would like to see the new addition

Sounds good Energy. I will take my sweet time before putting the rock wall in. Matter of fact I'll set it up in my 20 gal. first for a bit if it will fit. I deffinatley don't want to rush this wall into a established tank. So seeding it in another tank would probably be the safest bet.

I have 3 kids and not one of them ever slept through the whole night until they were 3. :)

well seeing i have bugged the reef master alot lately i will have to build him an acrylic camera box he can take some top down pics with. my camera is so big i dont think it would work very well to make a box for it.

as for growth in the tank. i think you will need bolt cutters to frag any of those trees in there. your tort is bigger than any other coral i have ever see in a tank. it must be 12"-14" tall and almost the size of a basket ball. i cant imagine what this reef will look like in 3 years. with 2 huge ca reactors running all the time those corals will be growing right out of the tank.

the question i have is... seeing you have just about every coral and fish imaginable to have in a tank that size. is there any coral or fish you dont have, that you are looking to add to the system?
