that red sptted wrasse( dont know its real name) is one of the coolest looking wrasses i have ever seen.

I believe its a Choati wrasse:

From Fish Index
Macropharyngodon choati (Choat's wrasse)

From Fishbase
Macropharyngodon choati (Choat's wrasse)

Thanks for the info Nick.. it does look like the same body shape as a leopard wrasse. Definitely an eye catching fish :)

Energy, is that tall tank behind the skimmer new? I don't remember seeing that when I was up there last month.

Trodder, those were some pretty awesome pics.;)

ya that tank is new. he is changing things around a little. the backing is on the tank so the fish have a dark hiding place to go into when they are spooked.

Truly awe-inspiring! :inlove: That tank makes my head :spin3: !! ALMOST makes me want to give up my teeny tanks and betta buddies....but when I see the photos of the back room with all the science experiments going on, :eek2: I dont feel quite so covetous....... Thanks for sharing your mysterious secret with us, spazz!

I swear. I almost had a job opertunity to take me to St paul and all I could think was. " I might get to see this tank!"
I think i need help:lol:

You guys are all to funny. Your welcome to come by and check it out. If anyone wants to drive from Texas or California all the way here to view my reef I can't turn them down. Nice pics trodder and Salty. It was a pleasure having all of you over on Saturday-Spazz, Carman, Salty, Skip, Trodder and the families.
Questions:
All the tanks are tied together. In the fish room picture on the far wall you will see two tanks-One above the other. The top tank is my semi-cryptic sponge refugium and the bottom tank is a chaeto refugium. The top tank gravity feeds into the main display slowly- which provides fresh food 24/7. The bottom tank was recently added to provide a larger refugium to cultivate live food for the army of wrasses and to help control, nitrate, phosphate etc. The tall tank on the right is the new water changing "tower". It is about 100 gallons and is set-up the same as the old water change tank which is now my macro-algae refugium. Basically my RO/DI fills the tower and then shuts off. I add the salt, mix and then open the gate valve which lets the water gravity feed into the sump. I open another gate valve on the sump and dump the old water down the floor drain. The toughest part of the procedure is getting the salt into the tower.

Lights: I did experiment with a reduced photoperiod for about 2 months. I have read that a lot of people are having great results with as little as 2-4 hours a day of halides. I initially noticed a loss of color in the sps so I increased the photoperiod. Now that I have the Luminarcs I feel I can reduce the photoperiod since the reflectors have greatly increased the intensity over the tank. I will probably set my halides to 6-8 hours a day and use the T-5's as viewing lights/ supplemental lighting during the morning and afternoon. I'll reserve the halides for the evening, which is the main viewing time and generally cooler outdoor temperatures. If I miss anybodies questions feel free to remind me.:)

question? have you been contacted about being reef tank of the month yet? lol if you havent, i bet it wont be long. he he he

just a reminder guys we all need to vote for this tank for reef tank of the month. i told energy his tank would be reef tank of the month with in 6 months of him posting here. i hate to be wrong so lets all get voting.
just incase you guys dont know where to vote for this tank its in tank of the month section at the very bottom.

sorry energy i just had to do it.

Energy
Did you have quite a few large pieces of rock before you started your rockscaping of did you have to tie/glue a lot of small pieces together to form your rockscape

All it takes is a single nomination, Spazz. Just PM Skipper, or click on the Nomination button at the base of the current TOTM article.

Energy HAS been contacted about being TOTM. i talked to him about it when i visited the tank (10/24/05). Skipper asked me to talk to him about it.

Energy has declined at this point as he would like to let everythign settle in and grow more so that the TOTM honor is a FULL GLORY of the tank.

sorry for answering this question for you Energy but i figured i was on and knew the story so i would save you the trouble

Energy You Da Man!

Energy You Da Man!

Energy thanks a lot for shareing your information and experiences with all of us on this board. Cheers on hands down the best looking tank I have ever seen in someones home. If I even attempted to think on a scale that big my wife would kill me. Kudos dude. You are an insperation to this hobby. I don't know if it has allready been asked but I was wondering how much water does your system evap per day? And does limewater make up the evap? Thanks again:D

if I remember right He has told me he loses anywhere from 7-12 gallons a day. The tank is mostly covered with 3/4" acrylic, which help decreace evap. There are two Calc. reactors on the system to keep up with the Ca, I belive fresh RO/DI for top off. Energy please correct me if I am wrong;)
