I really dont get the shimmer effect from the solaris lighting, and the way I change the water is I have a python that I suck all the water out of the H and S skimmer then out of the sump, by hooking the python to my sink in the den. Takes only 1/2 hour to change about 40 gallons which I do every 2 weeks.

Hi bbehring I also wanted to let you know that my first sump I bulit my self with a 40g br but I cracked it when I was servicing the return pump. I posted pics near begging of thread how I built it. Because I cracked the glass I ordered an acylic sump with baffles from Melev and I must say did an excellent job, i would highly recommend using him for the acrylic sump. I also posted pictures of the acrylic sump. I wanted acrylic because the chances of cracking acrylic is less.

Thanks mbay. I saw your initial glass sump. I agree acrylic is better for a sump. I have a 20 gal acrylic on my 54 bow front. I bought all the acrylic myself and put the sucker together. Works fine, but working with acrylic (which I had never done before) was a PITA. Next time, I'll just have one built! I saw the melv sump and it looked fantastic. Next sump I do for my 210 build will also have the double bubble baffles! I still get bubbles out of mine with the single trap at the last baffle before the return. Anyway great build! Love the pics. How happy are you with the solaris? They always seem a bit dim in the photos, but I know they aren't. I've been following a couple of threads on them for some time now. Not sure if I'll migrate that way or not? I was thinking on going with the ATI T5 modules 2x36" x 8 bulb or 10 bulb. I do know that we are using quite a bit of led lighting on our theatres we are desiging now. Signage, exterior and interior. LED is moving quickly into the mainstream commercial arenia.

The solaris is working well now, initially I had to return it because it had an over heating problem because the fans were not working properly, the company was great and shipped a new one and picked up the old one free of charge.The light is much brighter then what the pics show and all the corals seem to be doing well, its so bright I even bleached 1 or 2 by accident.

hey every one I started the calcium reactor 12/16/07 and my carbonate was 7dkh calcium 380 by test kit and 398 on pinpoint monitor and ph 8.2 I tested tonight 12/19/07 the carbonate was 10dkh calcium 400 by test kit and 426.6 on pinpoint monitor and ph 8.2. seems to working well I'm keeping the reactors ph with at 6.4 co2 goes on at 6.6
