the 210gallon upgrade thread

We did use the gate valve as Melev suggestion, and it did work well as you can see the pictures of protein skimmer and what its pulling out of the tank. The gate valve allows better regulation of water flow. Another great suggestion from Melev on my upgrade. The water from the T I have returning to the other side of the sump.

I like how it looks in your stand. :) I'm not sure why you needed such a large piece of eggcrate before the second set of baffles. It would seem you only needed it at the top.

Your collection up still looks a bit tough to get to. Do you have the room to rotate the skimmer 180 degrees and let the outlet run behind the collection cup to the end of the sump, or is the Tee fitting already glued in place? I'm guessing it is glued. A union or coupling would allow you to do a little surgery, but you may not want to do that. Having it behind would give you more access to the refugium from the front.

mbaychuk - I noticed the water level in your sump is relatively high. Do you know if the sump can accomodate the additional water from the top of the tank if there was a power failure?

I only asked because b/c I did some calculation a while back and my sump was cutting it close. Just curious if you know how much gallons that might be?

it fits without problems. i think the water comes up about another inch and a half. the water is a little higher then it was but where getting it worked out
as for the skimmer its actually very easy to get into the refugium and access the sump. and the skimmer cup comes right out with no problems.

I always do a dummy power failure to be sure the sump can handle the water when I choose the water level in the sump. I have plenty of lead way when the power is off. My thought is more water I can have the better

decided to update this thread for him. alot has happend. the tank has stabilized and the ick is gone. we got ride of the dimond goby because he was to aggrissive but found out that the pistol shrimp is attacking and killing all of the smaller fish in the tank. he is the next to go. a sailfin and puple tang were also added recently. ill see if i can get him to post some pics

thanks we got the pistol shimp out finnaly. now we can finnaly add small rock fish to the tank. we redid the left side as we had to take it apart to get it out. we got a small bluethroat trigger and 2 b&w clowns to

My protein skimmer pump washer wore out and while figuring that out I broke the platic needle off the air line intake. Im waiting to get back the pump, but I must say that not having the protein skimmer for a few days the water clarity is down significantly, so i must say having a protein skimmer definetly effects water quality, and light penetration

That's very true. You can run carbon for now to help keep the water clear, and do weekly water changes.

i think he told me that the pump will be in thursday so it shouldnt be that bad. hell have to take some pics of the tank now with the new fish and slightly different layout

I put my new eheim pump back on the skimmer today ,before I went to Manhattan. Works good and my old pump is being fixed and Ill keep it as a backup.

great looking tank and build. Have enjoyed the ride, tagging along here. Was wondering if you have any mirco bubbles entering your display with the front and back bubble traps you have in that sump? I've always had just one trap right before the return. Does the double make a difference? I too am struggling with the solaris fixture from the stand point of seeing photos and the lighting not appearing bright enough with the more blue look. I was also wondering if you get any shimmer effect from the solaris? How do you perform your water changes and how much/how often do you do them? Smoking tank! Post some more pics when you get time. Also for what it's worth, I have a skunk cleaner, a coral banded, a fire and 2 peppermints. The shrimps are by far my favorite, all have funny personalities. I'd highly recommend 3 of each of the peppermints, cleaners and fire with 1 coral banded. Also a really cool crab IMO is the sallylightfoot.

I dont get any micro bubbles at all and its great to see the bubbles coming across the sump and refregium and by the time they reach the return section they are total disapated. I must say even though the light doesn't look bright my corals are doing good and I had a red sponge that never did any thing and all of a sudden its starting to do well. My favorite fish of all times are the jaw fish family. I have a large dusky jaw fish thats amazing to watch, I also had a blue spoted one but it died, I'm waiting for my fish store to get another. I also have a purple tang, yellow tang, and sail fin, pepermint shrimp and cleaner shrimp.
