The 40B Tanks at PetCo...Tempered?

I was thinking of bumping up from my current 20 gallon to a 30 gallon but since PetCo has their fantastic sale currently running I figured I might as well just go with a 40B! However, does anyone know if the glass is tempered? I will be using a gl*******s drilled kit for my overflow so I will need to drill the back glass.

Awesome!! Thanks for the link. Any chance you know if the front and back panels are not tempered as well? Are most 30 or 40 gallon tanks tempered glass only on the bottom? Depending on which tank I go with, I need to be able to drill it for the glass holes overflow kit.

If the bottom's not tempered, then it's highly unlikely that the front/back would be. Usually, they temper just the bottom pane, with the exception of 55 gallon aquariums. They tend to be tempered all around.

I think you'll be fine drilling the glass holes kit, if the aquarium is the Aqueon brand.

My guess is that there would be word out if they were tempered; I'm sure you and I aren't the only who have snagged these $40 bargains for displays or sumps. I'll know before months end. I have a 3+" hole scheduled for it.

I'll wager that different Petco stores offer different brand aquariums so it's VERY important to specify/research the particular make aquarium you're referring to.

They should all be aquenon. And I have drilled several of these on the back wall no problem

There is a way to tell if it is tempered, but I don't remember all the details. It has something to do with inspecting the tank outdoors in the sunlight while wearing polarized sun glasses. Apparently, tempered glass has a rainbow look to it. Does anyone recollect this method?
