The Austrian Drop Off taken over by Acroporas

So it´s time for a update!!

most of the sand is gone... corals seem to like it and my parameters as well!

No3 dropped to 2,5mg/l and Po4 to 0,065ppm

KH is down again can start dosing again

cleaned the skimmer yesterday as well hope Po4 will drop more

corals start to look better but i am not that happy with the colors i am getting right now, but after KH above 10 i am happy that there are sticks left :lolspin:

part III

seems like the shrimps are killing those aiptasia after all... i really got the feeling the are going back...
main problem now are the bubble alge... think i will have to get something that feeds on them...

hope you guys enjoy the update!!

Cheers

Hi Flo
Even with challenges your tank looks very well.
For those algae I have a full time crab team that takes care of valonia.

Hi Flo,

Removal of sand will destabilise bacterial balance in your tank albeit temporarily. You may even experience some PO4 spikes as the sand bed's ability to absorb phosphates has now diminished.

I had an alk problem too, added too much vinegar into my ATO/Kalk and it slowly rose to 10.9 -_- it's backing off slowly now and everything seems to have handled it okay so far.

hey Bulent!
thanks! you should have seen my sand... wasn´t smelling good and very dark... i guess after chemiclean there wasn´t much left of my bacterial life in the sand... Po4 and No3 went down, removed it 2 weeks ago!

you too? You, Matt, me who else... seems to be a thing right now...
good to hear your tank is handling it good!

cheers

Alk spikes seem inevitable no matter what you do! Probably the biggest single thing that can crash an SPS system overnight.

Hey Flo, glad to see your tank is coming around.
Corals are looking pretty good.
Both emerald crabs and scarlet hermit crabs are great rock cleaners..
I find the scarlets to be the best because they do not get really large and tend not to eat snails.
Also, they are very recognizable, so you rarely get some unidentified monster hermit by accident.

how is your tank doing?

okay i will try to get my hands on those crabs... not so easy here ^^

corals are doing okay i would say... room for emprovement

Cheers

Hey Flo, I think the scarlets come from the carribean so they are much easier for us to get in North America.. may be hard for you, indeed!

I would say my tank is doing ok.. some growth, some death, lots of brown!
Just waiting it out.

yes feeding! but i am feeding my acans at daylight, no problem. as soon as the smell the food the feeders go out! but i am using pellets so they drop down on the polyp and with no flow on they have time to eat it!

Cheers

You still digging the BB flo?

I painted the bottom of my new tank black *just* in case I go BB too, but I'm not sure I can live with it -_- I also like wrasses a lot >_>
