The best clam I've ever seen...

heres the pic:

There is no way that this clam is a T. gigas. Gigas just do not have adequate byssus thread to attach to rock. They are exclusively live on the sand.
That is a Maxima. About "touch-up" I am pretty sure this is not the case, but I may be wrong.

I thought it was a maxima at first too, but if you look at the shape of the shell it looks as if it wouldn't be able to close like a maxima. The shell not being able to close is a charactaristic of gigas. That shell shape is like a gigas clam, but the coloration is like a tear drop. Maybe a hybrid

The pic was discussed in a thread on the other board, and the general consent there is that it is a faked pic. The host site for the underwater photograph do allow PS'ed photos for submission, take a look at the guideline yourself.

I just blew one of the pictures up in PS, and there has been some doctoring, but I don't believe it is completely faked. Mostly what I noticed was some smudging (as they noticed), and perhaps something was done with the acropora at the top, some of the edges of the clam at the top don't look completely natural at high magnification.

It's also possible that they did some color enhancement with the blues, but I can't tell for sure.
