The BEST Vacation EVER!!!

Hey Everyone,

This thread is long overdue, since this trip took place last summer, but I've finally gotten around to uploading some pics, and want to share with RC how beautiful (which is an understatement) the ocean can truly be (as if you don't already know!) and where I drew inspiration from for my recent upgrade. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2086440

So first, I'll give you some background on where I went and how it all came about, and then the pictures will follow with what I hope will amaze even the most seasoned aquarist/fish-lover/coral-lover.

Well, my wife and I are planning to have a family soon, so we figured we would enjoy our "kid-less lives" while we had them and go out with a bang. We wanted to go somewhere that, once we had kids, wouldn't be a great place to bring them and/or couldn't bring them at all. A place that we could relax and be away from it all.

With that in mind, as well as the fact that I've been scuba certified for a number of years now, and my wife is a big trooper when it comes to snorkeling (and was planning to get certified before the trip), we decided it would be somewhere tropical with good diving. Although we've been lucky enough to have already traveled to a number of places such as Australia, Cozumel, Belize, and Hawaii, none of them really gave us the feel of being truly remote and away from everything else.

So after quite a bit of research on my part, we decided to travel to the South Pacific... to a place called FIJI!!! :spin1:

Hopefully I can do the trip justice by showing you just a few of the images we captured on camera (knowing that there were hundreds if not thousands of other images not captured on camera that will stay with us forever!).

Thanks,

Chad

So after researching all of the different islands and resorts (there are actually over 300 islands in the Fijian archipelago), I narrowed down my search to an Island Resort on Namenalala Island, located in the middle of a Marine Reserve. It only allows guests over the age of 17 and feels like you stepped right into Jurassic Park.

As you can see, the island itself is extremely lush, which was indicative of what lied below the water's surface...

You can even do what they called "Chair Snorkeling"... which included sitting in your villa and looking down at the fringing reef below, sometimes seeing sea turtles and baby reef sharks...

'Course, "Chair Snorkeling" wasn't nearly enough for me, so within an hour of getting on the island, I took a dive in the beautiful waters right off of our beach...

What follows is a collection of pictures that I took over the next 10 days (averaging roughly 2 dive or snorkel trips per day)...

Hope you guys enjoy this half as much as I did! :D

Thanks,

Chad

To be honest, many of our trips were simply snorkeling trips because most of the stuff we saw were within 5-20 feet from the water's surface. But here is one of our joint scuba diving trips...

And here are a few pictures we got on one of the many beautiful days we were there...

I'll continue to post pictures as I have time, but I figured I would give everyone a nice glimpse of what I experienced going into the weekend :).

Thanks,

Chad

Great Pics :) That looks like the place to go. I'm gonna have to figure out how to make that trip happen one of these days.

According to this picture, we are using the wrong spectrum of light!?

And this one here says too much!?

I love seeing pics like those. I've seen a couple reefs (carib & cold water pacific) but I've never seen indo-pacific reefs in person so these are a treat, thx for sharing. The tanks some people maintain may be much more colorful but they'll never rival the sheer majesty of the real deal imo. :)

:thumbsup:Amazing. Thanks for sharing these. Please post more. Must have been nice having a bungalow in the papaya tree forest!

Thank you for sharing your pics with us. I can only dream of taking my family on a trip like that, but you know what they say "sometimes dreams do come true" thanks again, I really enjoyed the photos and details of your stay overseas.

WOW, I am going to call my Dad over and show him these. When you have a little back story like you gave it adds context to the pictures that google searches do not yield.

You are very blessed my friend. Speaking of, how about you become my friend and i'll bring my pro rig (camera) and shoot you in real style :) just gotta comp my room and air, lol.

As far as light spectrum, we are using what yields the best growth considering we dont have a ball of hydrogen & helium that 997,000 earths fit into. WE ARE TRYING! LOL. More please... :)
