The bleached anemone thread

Good move, you should know one way or another by the time you get home from work.

had the gf snap a shot before she leaves today:

If that is LR poking through in middle I wonder if it had a hole in it's foot?
It's very bleached, but you can see it is already responding to daylight, looks better than your last pic.
I would not give in yet.
While a hole in foot is death for most other nems, it could end up as a split for a BTA.
Hard to tell from pic, but there may be a division line I see from the 5 to 11 o'clock position.

Today is the first time I have ever seen LR poking thru.. it was not like that Last night.

also, hes been inflating/deflating daily since the day i got him.. i bet he was sick before i even put him in. he looked fine at the store tho.

i am rooting for this guy tho.

this thing does not like lights..

in the past week or so, he been closing up when the lights turn on..

i might be pulling the plug on this guy tonight or tomorrw AM

update:

looks like theres some tissue coming off it when deflated, i think i saw a piece of small tentacle floating around too.

So i relocated this bta to one of my brute cans... have a power head in there and heater.. with an LED strip over the top.. when i took the LR out of the tank, there was no foul odor whatsoever. we'll what happens over the weekend..

im kinda of concerned that this now deflates with Lights on period.. and inflates when light go off.. not sure what to do with this thing.

I would run on low light in that brute and continue mysis every couple days.
Your BTA lack the zooxanthellae it needs to produce energy from that light, so it may shy away from it at this time.
Small foods like mysis take less energy, think of it like chewing your food properly, or juicing, it's easier to digest and absorb nutrients, it's less stressful on your very weak nem.
At least it is now QT'd and now no worry of nuking your tank.

yea... the led strip above it isnt the brightest.. either.. its a current orbit LED 24"-36":

kinda worried its not enough light to be honest.. I have the orbit at 100% but the rock/nem is pretty far down, was gonna add a 6500k cfl

Was your temperature too high?

to cause the bleaching? i dont think so.. we had some hot days but my tank never went above 82.. even on the hottest of days.. my tank wasnt scorching.. seems cooler by the beach than say, Inland Empire. ;)

this nem was located in the back of tank at the bottom of the rocks.. didnt really get sufficient lighting in my opinion.. he never moved to a more optimal spot..

im gonna mix up 10g when i get home..

hes currently in 5g of water in my brute..

and will put him on some kinda of stand as well, so hes up a lil higher..

more salt on order.. ugh, daily water changes.

While light is their main source of energy, it can't even process it right now, best to keep low light, and just spot feed until it gains a little color.
Watch pump intakes.

ok, hes pretty attached to the rock.. hes been with that rock for about a month now,

hard to spot feed when the center of his mouth is LR, heh.. but when he inflates next ill give a bit of mysis

I would not do that heavy of WC, need params somewhat stable, weekly should be fine, couple gallons.
Cover or screen powerhead
