quick update, so i mesh moded my skimmer. got some sample flatback enkamat from colbond or something. and wow talk about a heck load of bubbles the body could not handle it, bubbles were rushing out the pipe, with 2" water/bubble level below the red line. i had to turn it off after a week, micro bubble all in my display. and i ordered a spare pinwheel and i was puping it in tonight and i broke the impeller shaft :(. not a happy camper right now.

Setup the Bm160 for a friend this week. We picked it up from Chris since were local. He a sauper nice guy and the skimmer worked an hour later! Not even a breakin period. The skimmer is built very well. IMO better than Deltec but not H&S. The only thing I thought could use a change was the design. Usually recirc skimmers have the pump on one side and exhaust on the other. This skimmer has the pump and then the Exhaust pipe 45 degreses arounf the skimmer body opposed to 180 degress. It makes the foot print very large. All and all the best for the money by far.

I am actually quite impressed with the BM.

Adam, I agree with you on the design. It does take a lot of room.

My pump stopped functioning today....
I'm about to take everything apart and clean it see if it works, but this is disappointing so early on.

worked for a few minutes after a complete cleaning.
started and stopped a few times, but is now not starting back up.

I emailed Chris at nuOcean. Guess it's time to find out how the support is.

Damn, I just ordered one last night for grins. I wish I would have waited to see how well your treated. How does the body come apart?

Keep us posted

Chris says he'll get a new pump out to me on Tuesday. Hopefully it won't take too long to get here, I'm in PHX and he's in NY :( - I hate not having a skimmer running.

The body comes apart by unscrewing the four screws in the base, it's simple.

I was able to order order it the other night but now I'm told that it is out of stock and will be back in stock in early Oct.

Your new pump probably came out of the one I tried to order. Oh well guess I'm on the wait list.

Is the Aquabee pump a lot better than the Atman?

Kc3

I think the Atman is starting to get the reputation as not being reliable (at least with this skimmer, which is the only place I've seen it in my experience) --- the Aquabee is not getting this same rep, as far as I can tell anyway.

You are correct, the aquabee pump is a much better pump than the Atman pump...

Hope this helps,

Looks like the thing to do might be to buy this skimmer, then upgrade the pump immediately.

To what though... Has anyone even tried alternate pumps inside the BM100 yet?
Do we know anything that works well? I'm all for trying another pump if there is something we know is suitable.
