I am just putting togeather a 65g system with a 20g sump and the Bubble Magus has really caught my eye. Do you think a NAC5A would be sufficient? Its raiting says so, but I know that can not always be trusted.

Go with the NAC6 instead. You won't regret it.

+1 to the NAC6A. I have recently set mine up and had a few issues but all have been resolved. This thing is way under-priced and under-rated for what you get. It's by far superior to my Tunze and Euro-Reef skimmer. Best part of all...zero micro-bubbles and no need hardly for my bubble traps in my sump.

OK. I am also looking for a pump from my sump to me DT. Any suggestions? It is a 20g sump and a 65g DT.

Depends on how much you want to spend. The Eheim stuff is my favorite but they aren't cheap.

I have heard really good things about the Premium Maxi Jet line. I will be ordering one soon for my tank.

I am looking for bang for the buck. The overflow is rated at 700 gph. Would I want a pump around that or just below? Sorry, this is the first non-nano setup I have done.

The Premium Maxi Jet line may be your best bet then.

I personally don't like a lot of flow through my sump and I get my flow from powerheads in the tank.

I have a 40 gallon breeder and will be using the MJ1800 rated at like 474 gph. After head loss and me throttling it back, it will probably run like 250gph or so.

Bubble magus NA6C Micro bubble problem

Bubble magus NA6C Micro bubble problem

Hi

I have had this skimmer for 5 months, had it running on my old tank and did not have a micro bubble problem, probably due to the fact that the compartment the skimmer was in had a different layout to my new sump layout, previously the water from the the skimmers compartment went under to the next sump compartment, so all the bubbles just rose to the top and did not make it through the rest of the sump.

My new sump has the skimmer compartment where the water goes over not under, so the bubbles are being carried through.

Can you guys tell me if your magus leaks micro bubbles, i can see mine traveling down the main tube and out of the exit tube.

I have tried raising and lowering the skimmer, restricting the flow of air and even putting a stocking over the outlet, the last solution sorted the problem but the restricted flow stopped the skimmer working properly.

Pleaasssseeee help, i am going mad, been trying to sort this out for over a week, it is a new tank and it looks rubbish because the water looks like milk.

Apart from that the skimmer is pulling out pure black gunk, brilliant.

Thanks

Mike

Just flip the skimmer around so the outlet is farthest away from the baffle. That way the bubbles have a longer distance to travel and can rise to the surface.

Also if you are getting a ton of micro bubbles from the skimmer something isn't right. I get a few that leak out mine but they never make it to the display.

Can't flip it around, it runs from from to back, so outlet faces the back.

What could be wrong that it leaks bubbles?

I have dismantled and rebuilt the skimmer a good 6 times, all goes back together as it should, what could i be doing wrong, bubble plate has the non hole side above the pump outlet as it should.

Hmmmmm

HMMM not sure what else you could do. I know mine kicked out a TON of micro bubbles for the first few days then it stopped and has been great since then.

Might try and remove a baffle, whilst the tank is running, that could be fun :-(

If remove it then the water has to go under straight after the skimmer, instead of over, maybe that would work!

The flow should go under up and over for best surface diffusion. You say the skimmer has been running for 5 months and it's now on a new system-correct? If thats the case then you could have production residues from the adhesive and mitering on the new tank that are just temporarily freaking out the skimmer. New silicone will leech oils for a while.

Unfortunately, the first baffle after the skimmer, goes over then under, maybe this is the problem, trouble is, removing and refitting baffles whilst the the tank is running is a bit difficult!

You may be right about the new tank syndrome, it has been running for 5 weeks now, it is running zeovit and all params are good.

Thing is, even on the last tank my bm skimmer was leaking micro bubbles (you could see a layer of them in the sump compartment)

They just did not get through to the return because the baffles went under then over.

Not sure what to do now!

Hey all, I'm setting up a 120 gallon sps dominated tank. I was wondering what you BM guys would suggest? I see a lot of smaller skimmers being talked about here. Anyone have any exp with some of the bigger models? I was thinking about maybe the BM220 CS cone skimmer or something. It's either one of these or an ATB 840 but thought if I could get a skimmer for half the cost that would do a good job why not? Just a little scared I might be buying something cheaper and then not be happy and end up with an ATB or Deltec in 6 months lol.

i think you are asking the wrong crowd. 80% of the folks on this thread have a BM. i have been running one for some time now, and once you own one, you become the "billy mays" pictchman for BM skimmers.

i would suggest going with what is available....the 200P. you will be generously sized above published numbers.

hi every one i just bought a bm 180cs and its still brakeing in. i was just wondering how long it took for your skimmers to brake in thanks

48 hours and I was getting some good skimmate production, but after a week I would say it was fully broken in, and skimming like a champ.

i put mine in about 9" of water and had the dial on off and it was over flowing with water so i moved it up out of the water to about 6" and kept the dial on off and it started to skim really good then it stopped skimming. so i turned the dial to 2 and and it started to skim really good then a few hours later it was over flowing again so i moved the dial back to off and it started to skim really good again then few hours later back to nothing. sorry if you dont understand but its really hard for me to explain by email
