Tivo,

That looks sweet! Can't wait to get some results when your pump works.

Try taking it all apart and make the bushings are seated correctly. You will know they are when you put the outside nut back on to hold it all together. It will fit with very little effort. If you have to force it on at all, then something isn't seated correctly.

Hopefully that helps. I had that same issue about a month ago.

Thanks Ryan,

I checked everything and all is seated correctly so not sure what to think except the pump is bad. I'll contact Eddie at Cadlights over here and swing by their shop if they have another pump.

The plate mod doesn't seem to reduce air/water line turbulence much but does seem to create a deeper/finer body of bubbles. After 15 minutes it settled down and started immediately pushing the foam head up and out. I thought that since I had drilled the acrylic, the surface tension should have been affected for several hours but no.

The SWC box is a perfect fit and I will have to see if I can order a spare through the SWC web site. Either I feel would be an improvement on an already sweet skimmer.

I'll let you know.

after a month of my nac6 running on my system i have no complaints. i only have some snails and hermits crabs in my tank right now and it still pulls junk out. it has only acted up one time and overflowed the cup but then settled back down and has been fine since. i noticed today that it didnt seem to be skimming very well and it wasnt making very many bubbles. took it out and cleaned it. put it all back together put it in the sump and it fired right up and started skimming perfectly again.

I heat up some RO weekly and disconnect the airline from the bottom of the silencer and while the skimmer is running, I slowly feed the airline with a pipette. It keeps the deposits from building and I don't lose air draw over time. I hate having to take things apart to clean them if I don't have to. I used to have a Deltec that always was plugging up at the intake and that was the only way to keep that sucker running.

Just my .02

I took my NAC6 out of the sump to clean all the crust and junk out of it, cleaned the pump and all that but I didn't put the diffuser plate back in. I have a theory that certain skimmers perform well with them, but in other instances they be a hinderance so I removed it. If you look at the higher priced, larger skimmer like Deltec and Bubble King, etc., they bubble plate is large - taking up almost the entire girth of the skimmer. Additionally I've noticed that most skimmers that have them tend to be larger (taller) than most "hobbyist" level type skimmers. Then I started thinking about the old school Euro-reefs, ASM's and pretty much all of the other skimmers that perform well without the bubble plate.

Now, my skimmer's body is almost completely full from the top of the pump - up instead of a distance above the bubble plate. I think I'm going to leave it this way for a little while.

How's it working out for ya?

I'm thinking of getting the NAC6. I have a couple of questions, is there a difference between the NAC6 and the NAC6A? Also, what is the recomended water level to run it in? My sump is 9" deep. I havent been able to find an online manual that has the depth to run it in yet. Thanks

NAC6 has a smaller neck than the NAC6A (euro version). The NAC6A is the one that I use and most on this thread.

Re: water level, 9 inches is fine but 10 or 11 is better in my experience.

My NAC6 after a couple week break in and a 2 day run time since cup clean out... This thing rocks!! On a lightly stocked 120...

This pic should go in the next Sales flyer!!!

couple ways

1) go online to the photobucket website and set up a free account. Then down load your pics into your own custom gallery. After you download them you can copy the image code or url code right under the picture by right clicking the mouse and click copy. you can then keep photobucket open and while your posting you can just right click again and click paste to put in in your post.

2) is to download your pics onto reefcentral. You would just download pics from camera to your computer and go into your view photo albums on the reef central task bar. Upload images and post them similar to photobucket.

I find that photobucket is more forgiving and sizes the images automatically in my case. It's just easier to adjust things.

Re: water level, 9 inches is fine but 10 or 11 is better in my experience.

Does the wider neck provide better prefromance or have any other advantage?

How much decrease in preformance do you think I would loose at only 9"?

I guess I should say what it will be used on. It will be used on a 55 gal tank, mod bio load. Mainly zoas for corals.

Thanks for the info and help

Im bought my second BM skimmer this year. My first one was the NAC7 and now im running a 180cs. I was really happy with the nac7 and bought the 180cs expecting it to out perform the nac7. So far thats not the case:( The aquabee pump on the 180 is very powerful but I dont think the needlewheel is the right impeller for it. Has anyone done a mesh mod on one of these?

Heres a link to my BM reveiw im doing for my local club

Wider neck skimmer = higher air volume/more skimmate

Narrower neck = less air/decent skimmate but much less than the wider necks.
