Wow, that is a beast.

I wish they would have put an Eheim 1250 with their own needle wheel (that they would sell to anyone) in the BM100... Maybe the 1250 is too long to fit in the BM100 6" diameter chamber though.

I joined the club yesterday...but I am having some troubles setting up my bm100.
Everywhere I read that sump water level should be of 10, so when I made my sump I built a first place part for the skimmer of 10inch. Now...I start the skimmer and the water fills the cup immediately, with every kind of regulation :|
Ok...so I lift the skimmer with a piece of polystyrene (0.5) and now when I start the skimmer the water stops in the middle of the cup...but only with one regulation: full opened with the red point perfectly alligned to the output T. Otherwise the cup gets filled again in a second.
What should I do ?! Should I try to lift it a little bit more ?!

I would contact the manufacturer first. If the skimmer is recommended at 10 inches of water, it should work fine.
If not, there may be a problem with the pump or outlet.

Is it a brand new skimmer?
 
Quick question for the BM160 owners.
I know this skimmer can be run externally, but if you happen to be running it in your sump...

Can you say that it is totally unaffected by the sump water level?
If not, do you think it is reasonably unaffected by changes from lets say 5 inches to 10 inches sump water height?

By unaffected, I mean that the water height change wouldn't cause it to suddenly overflow or cause it to spew massive amounts of micro-bubbles out...

Any recirculating skimmer will always operate independent of the sump water height. It's because of the constant feed.

The impeller come with the skimmer , also the venturi to you just need the 1200 and you swap the original impeller to the pinwheel....

I wanna pickup a BM... What size do I need for a 180 Gallon Tank. I'm going with Softies first then SPS.
 
I'm planning on getting a Protein Skimmer within the next 2 months and have a few questions.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to Octo Ext 160 or a BM100. As far as I know the BM is cheap in price but on the nuocean site it's at 0$ because they're out of stock. What is the price of it currently? Does this skimmer compare with an octo ext160?

-Has anyone put an air meter on these guys yet?
-What is the gph rating of the aquabee it comes with, and/or the altman? (thinking of messing with a few different pumps).

This would be ran on a 55g display + 30g sump.

This skimmer is a balanced skimmer but it doesnt compare with the msx octo extreme 160. It will work well but it just doesnt pull the air that the sicce pumps pull. Not that it is a bad skimmer. I am sure I will get slammed but I cant say they are in the same league really. This skimmer would compare more to a octo nw line or maybe a vertex skimmer. Again nothing wrong with these skimmers, just not really apples to apples. Good luck.

I hear ya, I'm just curious though because the most that I've seen someone pull air consistently through an extreme 160 or 200 is no more than 30 scfh. Most people being in the low 20's it seems (they're advertised to pull up to 35-37 scfh I belive).

I don't mean to sound all technical but that's why I'm curious if anyone has put a scfh meter on the BM models to really see what they pull.

I would look at the BM 160(what I will be putting on my 200 total system) or wait for the 250 or 260, Chris said they would be in around Christmas. They look like beasts...

The pump not like the sicce but those skimmer perform very well .
