Oops didn't realize it was a HOB. I have my eye on the 6 or 7. Still trying to figure which is better. Any opinions is the cone worth $50-$75?

Thanks - I love opinions

I opted for the NAC7. It arrived Tuesday afternoon for SoCal Tropical Fish Outlet. Out of the box I was in awe of this skimmer. It is so beautiful that I'd rather leave it out for everyone to see :lol2:. However, I noticed the Atman PH2500 pump had a crack on one of the thumb tabs of the impeller cover. I emailed SoCal a picture of the pump and Tom Tran immediately responded that he would ship me a replacement impeller cover. Shortly afterward I had a shipping notification. I didn't think this would have any impact on the skimmer's operation since the damaged tab appeared to be cosmetic. So I went ahead and put the skimmer together and couldn't wait to get it in the sump. It was pulling wet skimmate overnight by this morning was depositing chunks of nasty nog. Then when I got home from work, the skimmer wasn't working. I pulled the pump out and found the mesh wheel impeller broken. So I figured I would install the spare mesh wheel and then email SoCal again. But when I put the pump back together, it would not restart. I've tried 6 ways from Sunday to figure out why the pump won't start. Frustrated, I email SoCal about my predicament. Tom Tran again immediately responded that he would just send me a complete new pump and only asked that I send the defective pump back. If the Atman pump seems to be too unreliable for this skimmer, I'll look at other options. I can't say enough about SoCal's support though. They have been top notch. Hell, if the skimmer turns out to be a dud, I'll probably still buy another skimmer from SoCal.

NAC7 Pump Upgrade?

NAC7 Pump Upgrade?

I get the feeling that the Atman PH2500 pump isn't very reliable. It seems that some US dealers are adding Aqua Bee pumps to their BM skimmers. Has anyone successfully upgraded a NAC7 to an Aqua Bee or any other reliable pump?

I had my Meshwheel broken a few weeks back ago and had no luck with the spare ones. I was looking to upgrade to the Sedra 3500 which Tivo recommended. Aquabee's are running for over $100 vs $75 for the sedra.

I just got a Via Aqua 2600 which is exactly the same but it doesn't have the mesh wheel or pin wheel though.

Thanks Sammy. I'm thinking of buying the Sedra/3500 as a back-up. Are you going to keep the needle wheel impeller or try doing the mesh mod?

I'm still not sure if I'm gonna buy a whole new pump. If I do and it has a pinwheel I might add some enkamat to it.

I'm really looking to change to Reef Octopus cones which comes with Bubble blaster and now with the super saver feature has pumps inside the chamber. Downside is costs 2x NAC7

Finally got my pump to restart. Had to remove the impeller cover and pull the intake out just a little. Seems the meshwheel is a little too thick. So when I pushed everything in place and locked it down, it was too tight to turn the impeller. We'll see how long is lasts. Hopefully long enough for me to buy a Sedra 3500.

Hey guys looking at one of these skimmers and I found a place in Japan that has them far cheaper than the us, any reason I should not order from them?

What are the dimensions of the NAC7 cone? PS Tom at SCTF has a lot of different and expensive skimmers at his shop.

Moondoggy- Here's the stat sheet on the NAC7 from Nuocean's website.

The skimmer is great. I don't think the Atman pump is reliable though. I ordered a Sedra/3500 http://www.fishsupply.com/spksp-s3500.html that will replace the Atman when/if it fails next time.

Comparing prices to SoCal Tropical Fish Outlet

The 220-CS
SoCal - $800 Japan - $500

The NAC7
SoCal - $250 Japan - $170

The NAC3+
SoCal - $150 Japan - $72

The one I am looking at is the NAC3.5 no price is listed for SoCal but in Japan it is $80.

So I need a plug converter but other than that they should be fine?

Also could I just cut the plug end off and replace it with the correct american style plug end? Or must I use a converter?

no, you can't. Is not the plug what makes it 220V is the pump that operates in 220. You could change the plug for an american style 220 and run it in a 220 plug but those are usually in kitchen and laundry :P
