The case of the disappearing Goby...

So yesterday I added my first fish, and a shrimp, to my 12 gal jbj. A diamond back goby and a fire shrimp. They were both looking just dandy last night, and today, I cannot find the goby ANYWHERE. Believe me, I looked in filter, on the outside of the tank, I took out all the rock, nothing...Anyone have any ideas? I'm heartbroken. :(

you should have given him more time. goby's like to burrow under the sand and in the rockwork. my buddy's diamond goby has a hole he goes into and completely covers himself. he might still turn up, give it time.

I havea diamond goby. They dig and live under the sand along with sifting it. he is probably diggins his burow at the moment.

Don't move any more rock---he'll tunnel out! That's what they do for a living---excavate!

I had the same problem with a yellow watchman...Lost him for months...I was doing some cleaning and found him still alive in the filter section in the back of the cube...For some reason he mush have jumped over in it...Hope this helps...

LOL, yea I have found fish in the filter before as well, knowing this, I already checked the back compartments, and put my eggcrate back on! No, he has not turned up yet *sigh* This is my first goby, so I am not used to not seeing him...My fire shrimp is very content, as is my fox coral and brain, so I do not think he has a reason to be dead...gosh I hope not! Thanks for the advice all. :)
