wow, you should write a childrens book! On second though, maybe just a book... its a lil violent now that strongbad bit the dust... RIP dude!

My period of sullen mourning (moping) is nearing an end...

The casualty listing of last months massacre includes:
- Larry
- Curly
- B.D.E.
- StrongBad
- Velcro (the hydroid-covered 'decorator')

As of last night I counted 9 remaining ninja crustaceans (mostly hermits) including:
- Shemp (the sand-dwelling, smooth-shelled 'decorator')
- and Moe (the last peppermint shrimp)

During the moping phase I cleaned and rearranged (only slightly) the tank of Tim.

As retalliation, Tim chose to break apart the non-photosynthetic 'branching 'cup' coral and use it in his den for decoration.

Then I decided to (okay, okay... it was a retaliation too) reclaim the pieces and while doing so broke apart a bit of Tim's home-rock.

It's been escalating for over a week, but I think we reached an accord last night (after the third round of cleanings). We've agreed to a temporary cessation of annoyances towards one another at least. ;)

I know that I have him beat though... By this time next week the 20g long will be set up and beginning it's cycle. A month from now I'm going to remake his entire world...

*mad-reefers cackle*

( ;) )

Soon to be reefing in 75g and 20L? Possibly 10g nano on the horrizon? Maybe a dedicated pistol shrimp and shrimp goby in it?

Sorry to hear about the cassualties. As the reef flows though....

You know, if you really cared for Tim's comfort, you'd have him in the 75g where he could range freely as Lord-God-Emperor Tim.

His ego is still building towards that point, but shuttling him into a reef tank of that size now would almost certainly force him to revert to his days of clinging to the shadows and wetting his cape...

:D

In other news:

Bruce, an XL Emerald crab who once roamed freely as a member of the display reef and has since been banished into the sump after numerous transgressions months ago, has figured out how to climb the barrier-wall from the sump, into the 'fuge. This action annoys me. He will soon be making the transition into the territory of Tim...

dun- dun- daaaaaaa In the next chaper of tim the super mantis... a new neighbor moves into the neighborhood. Will tim and bruce get along? Will it be blunts, brews, and *****es? Or Brain bashing once more! Tune in for the next episode of TIM THE SUPER MANTIS.

Feeding Enlightenment

Feeding Enlightenment

So can you explain to the rest of the great unwashed how you manage to get food down the "great straw"? I'm feeding manfred whole krill which he seems to like (they look like bring shrimp only bigger (the greedy pig)). What do you feed the mighty Tim, how often, and how do you get it down the "Great Straw"?

I personally use the "Great Stick". When Shrimp on a Stick approaches the burrow, excitement seems to commence. But being that variety is the spice of life, I figure I'd give Manfred something new, hence I ask.

Take a turkey baster and attach a straw to it and use it to suck up brine or mysis shrimp or any other finely choped uncooked seafood. I used to feed my N Wennere this way.

Good deal, good to know.

I also went back and re-read this entire thread from start to finish again. Not only was it (still) extremely entertaining, I picked up a bunch of tidbits, er, I mean Tim-Bits about a bunch of things. Things I had wanted to know about like feeding with the "Great Straw" were explained earlier if I had bothered to pay attention ("Stupid Meatbag" ("Shutup Manfred")) when I first read them. Also, things Mantis' like to eat as well as how to best photograph them, etc, etc.

All good info. If you are new (or even if you are an old Tim Fan), go back and read the entire thread. LOTS of really good Mantis Care info packed in here.

Now I think I'm going to go back and "stalk" Manfred and see if I can get some really good pic's of him. :)

Jay your the latest to receive a place on the "People not to eat because I like them" list.

Congratulations! ;)

Tim and I have both eaten ourselves silly (though he had considerably less turkey then I did) and enjoyed the extra days of rest. *GRIN*

We are know both eagerly awaiting something big to report... ;)

(No, I do not suggest everyone feed turkey to their mantis, but Tim was threatening the life of the big astrea and I was weak. He did seem to enjoy the roasted bird meat...)

In other news, Tim has again stolen half of the clear-white cup coral and hidden it somewhere in his lair.

It is so on... ;)

Manfred didn't get turkey for Thanksgiving. He got krill. The "Great Stick" approached with the flavorful tidbit (Tim-bit?) and he promptly grabbed it and vanished. Two seconds later, the krill rocketed out of the burrow and bounced off the glass followed by the shrill scream of "PEEL IT!!!!!".

Obviously I was hearing things. I promptly field hockeyed the piece back to the surface, re-speared it and took it back to the burrow. Once again, the flavorful tidbit was again seized, taken in, and promptly flung out with the clarifying comment "PEEL IT STUPID MEATBAG!!!!!" :mad2:

OK, This time I heard it. And THIS TIME, I think I'm going to humor him. So I once again, field hockey the d*mn thing to the surface, fish it out, PEEL IT, re-spear it, and hoof it back to the burrow. This time he comes out, snags it, and takes it in.

I hold my breath.....

Amazingly, it stays in. I look into the burrow (it opens on the front (how excellent for me)) and sure enough, Manfred is munching down on the krill happy as can be.

I smile at him and through gritted teeth tell him "Don't think this is going to become a habit!".

He just glares back at me.

Right.

Note: I will not make a habit of posting Manfred's adventures here as this is TIM's forum, not Manfred's, however I couldn't pass up sharing this little item.
