The Continuing Adventures of Tim (Supermantis)

FYI:

Tim made all manner of vicious threats this morning about what he would do if I didn't tell all of you to check out this month's Reef Keeping Magazine online.

He was especially adamant about my making sure everyone understood that he was in fact the Supermantis in all of the pictures used and that he could indeed crack open the world, if he so chooses to do so (Personally I think he's a bit small still).

This is a great post... I feel proud to have the same name as such a cool mantis.

Tim's just created a new list with just your name on it, so far, "People to be wary of just because there have the same name... (and could be a threat)"

;)

Regarding his newest roommate, they're still feeling one another out. Bruce is significantly larger than B.D.E. was...

Bruce.....what a Nancy boy! Whats he gonna do? Run around in some tight purple pants and growl at people?

While you both got the referrence, Overflowin' got the pojnts with Tim... ;)

Bruce is big and enjoys throwing rockwork (that's why he's visiting Tim after all).

No contact yet, but they know where the other stays.

Mantis Carney Games

Mantis Carney Games

Well today Manfred's new playmates showed up. I ordered 100 of those Nassarius Obsoleta snails off someone on Ebay. Consider that a cold front of 30 degrees rolled in two days ago, I'm amazed that all of them lived. Anyways, I'm warming them up, acclimating them to the mantis tank, and dropping them in when I realized I could have some fun. Mantis Carney Games!!!!!! (hey, why not).

Instead of dropping them in, try tossing them into the mantis burrow. (For those of you who have no clue, this is similar to those charity games where you drop the quarter in the tank and try to land it on one of those little shelves. Not real easy.) After the first 30, I started to get somewhat good at this. I learned that, like football, if you give the shell a little spiral, it flies truer. Managed to pelt two or three into the burrow. Of course, outside the burrow, it looks like the landing of the 101'st Shellback brigade. Manfred didn't know what the hell was going on, but when the snails started moving around, he got real interested. Popped the first one a couple of times. Not sure if he ate it (but it's still in there and it isn't moving too much.). After I landed the second or third in there, he started carrying them out and dumping them at the entrance to the burrow (Think Fred Flintstone and the Sabre Tooth cat) and giving me a really disgusted look.

"Dude.... DUDE....... Yo' He lives!!!!!
Man we saw you in there takin' on the Mantis
(You got serious thrill issues dude....)"

I wish I had had my camera with me, it was priceless. Finally, he got so sick of it he moved over to the "Summer House" to get away from the hubub.

Hey, look at it this way...

1. It was cheap. :D
2. He gets "Maid Service" (Mantis's are pigs with their food) or "Room Service" (if you know what I mean  )
3. I get to go out of town for Christmas without worrying about feeding him!!! :bum:

Jay

Nice story Jay.

Tim never got to play with his I. obsoleta friends... they were all very, very dead when they showed up. /shrug

Got a few shots from Bruce's introduction to the tank (they're more poignant now anyway)...

This is Bruce. Bruce is BIG.

After acclimating for a bit Bruce inquires about why he's being moved and where he will live now.
DM says, "I'm tired of picking up corals and rocks that have been thrown from the top of the reefscape. You get to live with Tim now..."
Bruce responds, "WHAT?!??!?"

Bruce weeps softly as the full impact weighs heavily upon his thick crusted shell...

Tim contemplates whether or not he'd like to have a replacement B.D.E. so soon after the last. He'd barely had time to digest such thoughts before his impulses took over....

*BUUUUUUURP*

So the 'big guy' lasted just over a week (and most of that because he was hiding).

Tim seemed lonely after eating his most recent playmate, so I fixed him something special; Plated Krill on a bed of slime algae - table decorated with fresh zoanthid polyps.

The wait staff knows to prepare his table early and not to expect a tip also...

A little belated, but better late than never, right? ;)

Tim opened his presents early (as usual, doing things on his own terms). Nassarius topped his celebratory dinner, but remnants of Bruce were nibbled on as well... or at least shown off for the holidays; we hang stockings, Tim cleaned house and pushed scraps of exo-skeleton out and about.

It was a pretty (if somewhat disturbing) display.

Also finally found a shed dactyl for display!

And here he is showing off his favorite gift. A new Telson-sticker...

Enjoy! :D

I got it, no way was Tim going to let something the size of "A" stay around in the tank without giving it a whuppin.

As Tim, our beloved SuperMantis approaches his 20,000th reader, I thought it only appropriate to re-post a photograph proving his celebrity status, while at the same time feeding his ego.
