The Continuing Adventures of Tim (Supermantis)

Had to edit the peppermints out of that posting due to a limit of eight images per post... but I guess I can share them now...

Moe, Larry and Curly

Still ready to pounce... again...

Outcome doesn't change, he still missed...

As for the camera, I use a Sony DSC-S85. It's a 4.1 mega-pixel model they had in production a couple years back. It's set to take pictures at about poster-sized and highest resolution/quality. I won't spend much time lauding its greatness because a.) it is out of production and b.) I have to take many, many pictures and use a bit of photo-shop magic to make these pictures appear as clean as they do; i.e. the camera hasno magic, it's just well-made and does a decent job. I hear absoltely wonderful things about the Nikon D-70 as well.

Someone did ask recently what else I kept with Tim and I still don't think I've answered that in full. I updated the status of all the mobile 'verts, here are some of the immobiles...

I keep a small patch of watermelon shrooms...

a couple polyps of 'cup' coral that I don't feed often enough for reproduction to be happening...

Some sundial snail food (the snail was added as a snack, but Tim didn't care for the taste of the beastie... an hour after being pulled into the lair to be consumed he crawled out and headed towards this patch of ugly palythoa)...

Enjoy!

(Apologies to those receiving several notices for this latest update. RC was having a maintenance issue while I was trying to make this post.)

It's threads like this that make me glad to be a fish/mantis nerd.

Thanks, DensityMan, for putting a smile on my face with Tim's continuing adventures :)

You know, i'm pretty sure i'm just about the only guy in my school who, when given the oppurtunity to use the net, checks up on threads about gonad-munching buttfish and supermanti (plural form of mantis? or is it mantises?)

Keep it coming!

I hope one of my future mantises will be as much fun as reading about tim is...hmmm....will phil live up to expectations or will mark?(dont want to be a copycat name-wise :) )...or will neither...

Phil has demanded that I (respectfully) request a new story from "the honerable tim mantis" as he "enjoys hearing of the successes of a fellow human-trainer". No respect I tell ya...but at least he allows for photo shoots...must be that he hasn't decided on a good "door" yet, huh? :)

BTW, since what the heck is up with "human trainer" anyways?...is tim talking to phil? HE'S CORRUPTING PHIL! NOOOOO!...OR, maybe it's vice-versa...O_o;;

Tim is putting the finishing touches on another update.

It may be ready as early as this afternoon, but he is pretty easily distracted by shiny things and anything he regards as food... ;)

Reef maintenance day is always interesting. I get to rummage around both of the tanks doing the macro-cleaning before I take the siphon to each tank. I also get to stick my nose into Tim's plans and try to get inside his head...

Scary stuff in there... Mostly hate-mail to me for only feeding a dozen various snails a month mixed with demands to make the ration daily instead. He tries to respond to fan-mail, but more often than not he simply smashes through the wet paper. It's sad to watch...

Skipping into the more standard images, this one shows several benign inverts sharing Tim's water. The star is either really ready to split or mutated (Insert mandatory comment made by Tim about scaring somebody out of their skin here too...)

Not the best shot of Sinatra, but this is him (note the blue eyes...)

Remember the Battle-damage emerald (B.D.E.)? Here's a solid close-up to refresh your memory...

Looks painful, right? Shouldn't need any reminders of his 'place,' right?

Wrong...

Tim spies the B.D.E. coming a bit too close for his own safety...
BDE_reminder_1.jpg

so Tim ducks back down to hide a bit and let B.D.E. get comfy... and closer.

Tim practices patience...

BOO!!!

Everyone (except for B.D.E.) has a grand laugh at the playful pouncing.

And of course, the star of this show, Tim...

He's been trying to keep track of the various threats and meals in his tank recently. I tried to interepret his scribbles and barked commands and this is what I cam up with:

Lots of "X" marks... no physical 'treasures' though... ;)
