The Foam/rock Projects Here Thread

haven't quite started yet, but mine will have an overflow box from glass-holes.com in the upper middle. i'm gonna build the eggcrate around it & make the rock wall go all the way to the skimmer slots.

my wall will go 1/2 up the side walls as well, so i plan on doing my rock wall in 3 pieces....1 side wall & 1/3 the back wall as 1 piece - middle 1/3 of back wall as 2nd piece - other 1/3 & other side as 3rd piece

I used a Glass-holes box, but decided against covering it up completely, I wanted to be able to keep an easy eye on algee build up. I probobly could have gone a little higher with it. You can kinda see it here, left hand side. It wasnt too hard, just built a box that wrapped around the Glass-holes box.

yeah, thats kinda how mine is gonna look.....except i plan to cover the exposed face of mine w/ epoxy & sand so it blends into the wall

thats smart, i wish i thought of that, you just gotta rough the acrylic up with a little sand paper and the epoxy will stick. maybe i will do that on my next water change when the box is dry.

marcelft you can def pull that off when you do a water change. you'll have a little sand cloud in the tank from the unused sand, but it can be done

Thats a great wall, you used awesome peices of rock and corals, came out awesome.

Do any of the fine foam wallers here have any spare epoxy they could send to an unfortunate Canuck who can't find Z-poxy locally?
I'm doing a 20L and this is all that is holding me up... drop me a PM if you can help I'd appreciate it!

i got mine from an ebay seller that was a tad bit more than this site (which has the lowest price i found online)
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/paa/paapt40.htm

the reason i got it off the ebay seller that was more, it worked out to be cheaper once shipping was factored in for more than 1 kit.....i ended up getting 3 kits which is probably waaaaay too much LOL

i may be a little late on this but heres my 10 gallon build thread on modernreefkeepers.com of my foam creation.

ls1fst98 that would make a sick mantis tank
Cold got to be.

I like that its a peninsula, with a cave. The black sand (I'd think) would take away/eat up some of the available light, so I don't know if it would work so well with a small reef, but a superbad tank nonetheless.

UPDATE - just read your build thread! Nice! Tell me - how did you suspend the rocks, etc? Do you have PVC inside the foam? Did you layer the foam up? Does the foam get strong that way? Enough to support rocks?

1.5 years later, the background is covered with corraline and green star polyps. sorry, you can't see anything at all to figure out if the background is fake.

*One caution, sea urchins will expose the foam when they munch on the background. Mine actually eat the cement off and leave a yellow foam showing, but it gets covered w/ corraline w/in a week. They haven't been doing that as often though lately.
