The Foam/rock Projects Here Thread

Yeah, the GSP background is really neat with the wavemaker. Sways like a neon green prarie. I even have one of those lil prarie dog watchman gobies that perches on my GSP in the back left corner.

My original intent was to attach frags to the foam backing actually.

If I may ask... what happened to the frag plan?

That plan sounds familiar... except you're way, way, ahead of me. :)

I changed my mind about attaching frags to the back wall because of several reasons.

-It's hard to light the back wall with intense light needed for SPS growth.
-All the corals underneath will be shaded out and the ones on top are the only ones that would grow. (that's why the GSP works well, it doesn't shade out the coral underneath, too badly)

hopefully when i get my new build done, i can "seed" my back wall w/ the gsp....i think it looks very cool.

i like stuff like that that moves w/ the current flow....really gives the tank that "alive" look & feel
:D

I used gsp's on my back wall to keep some fast spreading brown zoo's in check. :)

fishing line

help me out here - any reason to use zipties instead of fishing line or at least to not use line?

It seems less conspicuous.

Fishing line is ok, but won't hold the bigger rocks in place tightly. Also much easier....Either way, they will be completely covered by the foam, so don't worry about anything showing.

Great idea

Has anyone done this as an entire DIY and made it w/ aragocrete rock (w/ salt to make porous) instead of purchasing rock, and possibly even filled in the gaps w/ aragocrete or covered the foam in it instead of epoxy???

I'm not worried about weight issues I can pick my 75G aga up no problem myself (being 6'7" allows me to actually get my arms around the middle to do it lol) so I think if I make a few sections it will be fine.

I know it might take longer to cure w/ the DIY rock but I'm in no rush, just wondering if its possible and if anyone has attempted that yet or not.

i have seen several people having to trim theirs to make them fit....the foam expanded the whole thing horizontially.....so i had an idea to combat this:

i took some particle board & constructed a bottm/rear/sides box that was the inside dimensions of my tank. that way i could attach the eggcrate to the sides & build it that way & it wouldn't expand past the confines of the tank dimensions.

then i had planned on taking a cut-off wheel & cutting it into 2 or 3 pieces after it had cured to get it into the tank

Here are my pix of my tank so far 46g bow front...
I decided to do something different and do a rock wall, all props go to Tiggsy's thread :D
firdt piece took 13lbs of rock and the second piece I finished tonight took 20 lbs..got to tired to take pix lol
cut the eggcrate to fit
