The Foam/rock Projects Here Thread

Foam wall on the right side hiding the aio wall I built into a 20 long used sOme PVC fittings to make caves, backers pond foam and marine epoxy then covered with corse sand before epoxy dried

used pieces of wood cut to 22-23 inches in length to wedge against the foam and class to hold it flush to allow the silicone to dry

So what epoxys are safe to use? Home depot has loctite marine epoxy and I'm wondering if thats ok to use.

quick question, i have a few places that the egg crate dont match up perfect so you can see some of the glass and its also made it difficult to silicone some of these areas. my concern is smaller fish getting back there and getting stuck so i need a way to "seal" it off. its difficult due to the angle to get silicone back there or i could grab a can of foam and foam it all closed???

Stupid question... I think.

Can't you just sprinkle the pond foam with sand before it dries so you dont have to epoxy it on later??

(I registered just for this thread because its amazing!)

Not going by experience but I was planning on putting a little foam in some spots once the wall was installed. I think we will be ok, but I am going to take care not to have any large air voids that can trap detritus so I'll be smushing the foam around with something.

Not that stupid!

When i used the becketts pond foam it started to set with a skin over it after a short period of time. You may be able to put the sand on the foam before the skin forms. The other option would be to peel the skin off after it has set for a little bit. This would be extremely messy because the foam is like tar at this point, but I think it would work out the best for you. Wear gloves if do the second method!!!

I'd say do a little test on a piece of cardboard or something. See when you think the best time if any for application for sand would be.

Another question... I got some Pond/Waterfall foam from Home Depot called "Step 3 Waterfall Foam Sealant" by 'TotalPond' which is the stuff some people are talking about on here as "safe for our tanks", "The one with the green bottle and a black cap" etc etc but on the back of the can it says:

"Cured foam can be trimmed or sanded. Cured foam exposed to sunlight must be covered with paint or stain. "

Now are they talking about all cured foam or just cured foam that has been trimmed or sanded?

Confused...:confused::confused:

*EDIT*
Are they saying if it is out of the water exposed to the sun...???

Has Beckett changed their can? I went to home depot and they had "Waterfall Foam Sealant" by Beckett, but the can looks different from the one that everyone has used. I couldn't find this product on the Beckett website only the typical one. The can is green with a black cap.

Utah, it was actually you that said that... Too funny.

So did you use that stuff or the Becketts that you speak of?? Works the same? Did you seal it?

Yeah I was really confused when I found the new bottle haha. After calling the company they said it was exactly the same. So to your questions, I'd say call the company with your specific questions because they were helpful with me and the wrong answer could cause major problems.

If you call, please post what they say because I am curious and it will probably help out lots of people in the future

The number they have listed on the website is disconnected or something.

so my water is a bit cloudy looking and i cant figure out why unless it could be from the silicone that holds the wall to the back of the tank. any one out there have any ideas

what causes it?

ive noticed a few parts of the silicone near the rock have turned a slight greenish in color. the rock was live then set out to dry then siliconed into place to help the foam hold it and so im wondering if it could be from the die off of the rock?
