You won't be able ti silicone to glass when its wet and dirty. And if you did try to add enough rock to keep it down...that will be a lot of rock...but that's the only way you can do it though.

Really interested in building a rock wall for my new 54g corner, these look sic, a few questions, does detrious get trapped behing the wall? would be a concern for me, anyone have one of these for long term with no ill effects? Thanks.

i just put mine up but i plan on using a maxijet or something to blow the debris around in my tank to get it to the skimmer. i hope that will keep it from building up behind the wall

So, I must ask if the whole rock wall idea is worth it in the long run? I'm thinking it might be a hassle if something gets behind it or if something unwanted starts to grow on it. With a regular piece of rock you can just remove any unwanted pests(aiptasia, hair algae, etc.) by taking out the rock. With the wall you are kinda screwed, right?? Any insight would be great.

Perhaps this is a silly question, do you remove the tie wraps after applying the foam? and how much silicone is used on the wall to hold it securely?

I removed some of my zip ties, the ones that were easily accessible or obviously visible and those that interfered with siliconing it in place. But many are in place still. I would keep ones on heavy rocks and those with very little contact to the foam, but everything is relative.

I also used a ton of silicone, almost a full tube on the back wall and one side of a 10g tank. At least it felt like a ton. But everything is holding just fine.

Now i have a question or two. Do i need to let the foam cure or is it my silicone that i need to let really cure? And roughly how long? Would having water in it already slow that down? I had the foam done for a few days before siliconing it in place, and let that sit for 24h+ before adding water, but i don't think that was long enough...

With an established tank, my suggestion to you is the finals why you make, then cycle the whole sheet, or something you divide into multiple parts to cycle in the sump.
Once that's good to go ( 2-3 weeks ) you should be able to slide it in your tank and everything should be ok. At least from what I think it should be lol.

I was thinking about a project similar because my current tank looks empty with a small volume of rocks. A few man made pieces would be awesome, especially ones with a good hole for frag plugs to be mounted.

i sat mine out of the tank for about a week or so( partly because i kept tinkering with it) then siliconed it in place and ran salt water in it for a week, then added 2 green chromis for another 2 wks. one thing tho is my rock was live so it helped speed up the cycle process

I just found this thread, and boy am I glad. I had my new tank foamed 6 months ago when I first started. Lately I noticed that my foam wall looked interesting, like jagged rock and real natural. Then I realized that when I first got it, all of it had round corners. I've read some threads on this and figured that my foam wall is deteriorating. I'm really dissapointed since I thought this was a good job when it was done. I didn't know that it had to be coated with epoxy after it was installed. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now.

hi there guys! well i've been reading this thread for sometime now and i will be starting my foam project this weekend! soo Excited! anyway ive got some questions about coating the foam with resin:

is it okay to apply the resin right away even if the foam isnt cured yet? i mean 24hrs. of curing time hasn't been reached yet(but the foam is already dry and fully expanded.)

see, coz i will be using LiveRock and time is very crucial so that there's lesser die off. length of time really matters to me and i wanna rush things up!
