The Foam/rock Projects Here Thread

That is what I wanted to do. But, I can not find any locally and I want to get moving on this project so I can get it cured, and then water in the tank.

Go check out the Ace Hardware over on Missouri Blvd, look for the Great Stuff Pond and Stone. If they dont have it in, tell them they have it on the Ace website and they have free shipping to the local Ace hardware ;)

If you can find the Touch N' Foam brand its usually a lot cheaper than Great Stuff.

They have the Great Stuff Pond and Stone, but it does not say that it is UV stable. In fact, I think that if you read the fine print, it says that you have to pain or epoxy it to make it UV stable. I looked at two different pond foams, one said that it was not UV stable and one did not say anything, don't remember which was which. But not taking the chance. I have no desire to rip out the foam wall in a couple of months because my gamble did not pay off.

Bubble Algae issue on rock wall

Bubble Algae issue on rock wall

I did use black waterfall foam. Wall is great but i seem to be having a issue with bubble algae growing only on the wall. Could it be Phosphates leaching from the foam that I used causing this? Has anyone else had this issue or is it incidental?

Thanks!

It's black foam, branded by Tetra. It's marketed for waterfalls just like the Beckett material is.

The stuff I used was Touch N' Foam Landscape, its fish safe, UV Stable, and I got it for $4.39 a can.

Hopefully one of these retailers are near you.

so - I just called a seller, who checked... and NO. It does not say UV safe. I did coat the wall with resin (as described in this thread) and then sand. You think it's still breaking down?

nice thing is, I did mount with strong (Coated) magnets so I should be able to "Pop" the wall out.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Sweet! Thanks for taking the time to post that for me. I am calling some of those places now. How long have you had that in your tank?

Finally finished 54 corner wall, after cycle will be adding some cured LR.

Most all black pond foam is UV stable and most brands will tell you to coat it simply to cover their backsides.

To date I have used the stuff from Home Depo in the green can in my sons 10g AIO going on two years and no problems with it (was coated in epoxy and sand for looks more then anything), the great stuff pond foam (I actually had two cans that did not come out black after a couple quick calls I was instructed to take it back to the store as it was a defective load and the black pigment was part of the built in UV protectant) been in water for months (on the most recent project) and no issue to date but I must stress that all of these are epoxy/sand coated.

Homedepot carries Total Pond Foam, which is one of the foams you will want to use. just look on their online store to see if any stores in your area have some in stock. should be on the shelves in the outside garden area pool section. $13 per can though.

Some fantastic projects guys.
