The "forever split"

I have a beautiful 18" rbta. Brought it home at the size of a quarter. And it's stayed put and gotten huge.

Roughly three weeks ago it started to split for the first time. It's still not finished. It has two separate feet, but is still connected by about 2" of disk flesh.

Is this normal?

I suppose the good thing is the split isn't going to wander off!

Should I leave it alone? Should I finish the job?

I wouldn't finish the job, but doing a large water change may get it to finish on its own.

Did 50+ gallons today (about 300 gal system)

Will remain patient. Didn't know that splits could take this long.
