You can try that pump since it's close and see how it works. Just raise your sump and use larger diameter return piping. If it doesn't carry enough water you can replace it. Plumb it in with unions so you can easily switch off to another pump if necessary.

You may find a good used pump in the equipment sale forum. I would only recommend an external Iwaki or Sequence pump since these are the ones with which I have personal experience. Perhaps you can find one in the used equipment for sale forum.

Thanks Tom,
Yeah Ill see how it goes with this one, then Ill look for the Iwaki or Sequence.
I said I would never buy from their again lol I would rather buy from from someone local. But yeah Ill look around and hopefully I can find one :)
Thanks for looking into that for me Tom :)

Tom,
I just purchased a smaller Panworld external pump from BulkReefSupply. I bought it for the High School setup (55 gallon). I saw that Iwaki are reviewed very favorably by most people and these pumps "are designed and built by a former chief engineer from Iwaki-Japan". I have only had the pump on for a few days. It is quite strong and quiet, and was reasonably priced. I am not sure of the long term performance or reliability. Anyone else use these pumps? It might be an option for Shawna in the future.

How many GPH do I need?

This is where I'm confused and I was hoping to avoid, (matching a pump up with sump? or overflows?) How ever that goes???????
I don't know what the overflows are rated for or what size sump and apparently the owners do not as well.
So do I need to find this out before I look into a pump?

You need an exchange of 3 to 5x the volume of your tank. So you need to deliver about 600 to 1000 gallons of water to your tank. In my opinion an exchange at 5x volume is much better than less..
Panworld are very similar to Iwaki. A thread can get difficult to follow if everyone starts hijacking ;)

use this calculator:
http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/drain.php

volume (for figuring out size of your sump) =
(in inches) length x width x height / divide product by 231= volume in US gallons

generally speaking, you design a reef aquarium system to what you'd like to keep in the aquarium HOWEVER experience has taught many of us that good aquarium turnover (ie: GPH down the drains) makes it easier to maintain any aquarium for many reasons. This isn't to say that you cannot have a reef aquarium with lower turnover.

Hi Gary,
What's hijacking? I know I have a lot of questions sorry about that :)
I have no idea how these threads work/rules. Do I start a different thread for help with build?

hijack = others taking your thread in another direction.

ie: if everyone starts posting their experiences with Panworld pumps. 'Panworld pumps' would make a good thread on it's own (separate of this thread).

That thing has 3 RO membranes, With 3 water assisted pumps.....who ever had it had to have real crappy water, or got sold a bill of goods.
Normally there are 3 pre-filters and then a RO membrane then out to product water....Looks like a great unit and comes with a water storage unit too.

That thing is a monster! Looks like a comercial unit IMO. Im very curious to know what the GPD is on it.

Thanks,Looks a little to complicated to me. I hope we can figure out how to hook this up, also I'm on a well will this work? I have been using tap water as long as I have been in the hobby, and no issues as of yet other than diatoms ( This is why I wanted to change over to an R/O.
Is this an R/O-Di or just R/O?

Looks to be just RO. I dont see a DI resin chamber anywhere.

I hate to be nosy Shawna but what is he charging you for it? You can get a 125gpd unit from purewaterclub.com for about 75 bucks and you know exactly how old the membranes and resin are.

Well they have gone up a little, the 6 stage 2xDI 100gpd unit I bought is now 95 bucks.

ahh no problem ,he's only charging me $40.00 because I gave him some extras with my tank he's buying.
I told him I was not sure I wanted it but then I said well I really need one and it can't be that hard to hook up! not so sure now lol
Anyway it will be here tomorrow, I can give you more info then. :)
Thanks
